Snow White: German (not dutch, there are no castles in the netherlands)
Cinderella: French
Sleeing Beauty: most likely great Britain (there is no obvious distinction if it's French or German, so that's the best guess)
Ariel: Denmark
Belle: French (obviously)
Jasmine: iraqi (even though the fashion and cultural attitude is highly inaccurate)
Pocahontas: Jamestown, Virginia US
Mulan: Alaska haha jk..... China
Tiana: New Orleans, Louisiana US
Rapunzel: German (Saxon) (there are also many claimes it takes place in Turkey or another Ocean surrounded country, but no ones really sure because they based the town on Fantasy land XD)
Merida: Scotland

Jasmine is from the fictional city of Agrabah, which is based off Bagdhad, so she is from Iraq.
Ariel is from Denmark
Mulan is from China
Pocahontas is from North America (Virginia)
Snow White is from Germany
Aurora...in Sleeping Beauty it never outright explains where she is from, but possibly Germany or England.

I'm going to argue Germany for Aurora--her castle is based on Neuschwanstein.

I'll agree with the folks who say French for Cinderella. Her stepmother is Lady Tremaine, and a family named DuBois (Doo-bwahhhhhh) is mentioned at the ball.

Belle, French, duh.
Jasmine, Arabic, ditto.

Snow White and Ariel were both listed for their best known authors: Germany's Grimms and Denmark's Andersen, respectively. Though, technically, I suppose Ariel is Atlantican...just as Giselle is Andalasian.

Pocahontas and Tiana, American--though in different ways.

Esmerelda, unknown... Gypsies in France in 1482 could be Muslim, Jewish, bi-racial, tri-racial, anything the French aristocracy didn't like--hence, the living in exile. Maybe some Spanish in her? Perhaps North African?

Megara, Greek.
Mulan, Chinese.
Jane, English.
Nala, African... ;-)

And Rapunzel? We could guess as we did for Snow White and argue Grimms Brothers = German. But, rumor has it she's stylized in French Roccoco, so we'll see. Guess they're giving up on the polite nod to globalization and going back to indefinable western-European white girls.

2)Cinderella: France
Again by wikipedia and in the movie whenat the end Lady tremaine goes to wake her daughtrs to tell them about Duke's coming the micegus and jaq also follow her through the opening of a FLEUR DE LIS sign which is an important FRENCH SIGN!
3) Aurora: French
At the end when the fairies appear in the balcony there is a cloth hanging which shows FLEUR DE LIS signs which is an important French sign!
4) Ariel: Russia
Ursula says in poor unfortunate souls that the wind come out of the Caspian Sea proving that Ariel was either eurasian or Asian and not purely european
5) Belle: French
6) Pocahontas: Virginian/American
7) Mulan: Chinese
8) Tiana: Canadian(New Orleans)
9) Rapunzel: Turkish
The Castle Shape and Kingdom Dance tune are from a Turkish Annual Festival.,., Afterall John Lasseter stated that Rapunzel will not be a European Princess butfrom either Africa or Western Asia!
10) Jasmine: Saudi Arabia
The first song by the storyteller tells us they are Arabian Nights!

Actually, nipun007, Aurora is actually French because of the original setting from the Charles Perrault version. Chateau D Usse is the acutal modelWe also hear King Hubert saying, "En Guarde, sir!" to King Stefan. Most IMPORTANTLY, there's a lot of fleur de lis signs, important sign back in France a long time, and there's the old French National Anthem, which is VERY IMPORTANT to respect our country. Maleficent is not British (Cruella, Professor Ratigan, 101 Dalamtains/Great Mouse Detective characters are British, and other films that are in UK, etc), she's french. 101 Dalmatians, Great Mouse Detective, Peter Pan, Sword in the Stone, Alice in Wonderland, Robin Hood, Winnie the Pooh, and Mary Poppins all take place in England, except Sleeping Beauty which takes place in France instead because of the evidence that supports my claim.

ARIEL is NOT from Denmark!!!!!!! Stop this Non-Sense! lol

Ariel is the daughter of King Triton, Son of Poseidon. Poseidon is Brother of Zeus. Therefore she is Greek and also Hercules and Triton are cousins. Ariel and Hercules both have the same reddish hair.

I am surprised that this is not common knowledge considering everything is so obvious in the movie as to whom they are... ie... King Tritons name, his famous Trident, etc...

Oh and Ariel's mother is not mentioned in the movie, so let's all try and guess that one!

Ariel is listed as Danish because that is where her story originates. It seems you don't know the history so I'll try to help as best I can. The nationality explanation has nothing to do with her being a mermaid, or a daughter of Triton. The story, "The Little Mermaid" was written in the 1800's by a Danish man named Hans Christian Andersen. Andersen is also the author of, "The Snow Queen" off of which "Frozen" is based. Andersen's being Danish was taken into consideration by the fine folks at Disney when designing the Kingdom that the handsome Prince Eric ruled over, which Ariel was always so close to. The world of "The Little Mermaid" was clearly based on old Danish styles, rather than ancient Greek. And, as a testimony to Andersen for being so renowned, and important to his Nation, in Copenhagen Denmark, where Andersen passed away, there is a statue of the Little Mermaid by the sea.

The snow queen is most certainly Scandinavian. And how can you say her world was 'clearly' based on Danish styles? Her wedding dress was clearly based in the 1980's. Also, I would say that her entire family having Greek names would probably signify that she is Greek. Also, if you read the story of the snow queen, you would see that there are significant alterations to the story, in fact, it is very loosely based. And the Disneys little mermaid, is not Hans Christians story either, since they differ very dramatically. She actually dies in the old story, so please do your research before you tell me that I 'obviously' don't know the story. That is all.

Well, I agree that Belle and Cinderella are from France and Jasmine might be from Iran. Mulan, Pocahontas and Tiana are easy as well.

With Aurora it might be a little tricky. The Names Phillip an Stefan or Stephan ( Prince and Auroras father) are originally greek the name Hubertus (Phillips father) has german origin. From the movies design it could be medieval Germany or England, but you must keep in mind that in that time (depends on when it takes place) Europe wasn't the Europe we know today. And maybe Disney just took different europian Symbols, names etc and mixed them up a little bit and out came this europian like country.
There is also both a german (Brother Grimm) and french (Charles Perrault) version of the fairytale...

The forest in Snow White could be the Black Forest in Germany, but otherwhise I can't find any clues about it in the movie. Of course it would be only logical to asume that she is german as the fairy tale was collected by the Brothers Grimm.

I don't know how you can get the Idea that Rapunzel is turkish though...

In general I think it's an interesting discussion but really...Disney is American and I don't mean to be rude but some Americans have sometimes a little weird image of Europe and mix thinks a little bit up sometimes ;) So I wouldn't be to pig-headed on that topic.

Cinderella: Russia based on the clothes, her stepsisters names and the fashions of the men as well.
Aurora: I personally think she is Italian. There are blonde Italians in North Italy.
Ariel: Just guessing, maybe English or Scottish. I really think Scottish though.
Belle: Obviously French.
Tiana: American. Duh.
Merida: Scottish. Her accent gives that away.

Umm...I'm sorry, but how can you call some of these answers stupid and then say Ariel is from Scotland? Did you watch The Little Mermaid? Did you notice the WARM climate that is apparent by her dress, the sea creatures, etc? Scotland is not warm...the North Atlantic is actually very cold. If you had said Greek or Mediterranean I wouldn't have said anything, because at least that's close. If you watch the movie, Ursula says "come winds of the CASPIAN SEA"...that's at the Southern end of Russia, Kazakhstan, Iran, etc.

These are my guesses.

Snow White: German

William and Jacob Grimm, the authors of the original fairytale, were German. Also, Snow White wear clogs while working as a maid for her stepmother. Clogs were wore by Germanic people that time, I believe.

Cinderella: French

There are fleur-de-lis on the walls of Cinderella's Chateau. The title "mademoiselle" (miss in French) is used many times through the movie. I believe that the surname of one elegible maiden at the ball is Dubois. That's French. Also, the version of the tale that Disney based of his movie is French.

Aurora: England

The names sound very English to me - Stephan, Phillip, Leah, Samson.

Ariel: Danish

I'm not so sure. The author of the fairytale was Danish. However, I've read an article in livejournal that said it was probably set in Portugal or Monaco, which I think is very reasonable. I've also heard people say it's set in Spain.

Belle: French

There are French words used through the movie (bonjour, mademoiselle, madame, l'amour, etc), Lumiere says it's France in Be Our Guest and the characters' names are French. Mrs. Potts, Chip and Cogsworth are English, though.

Jasmine: Arabian

The opening song is called "Arabian Nights" But I've read that the culture show in the movie is more Iraqui than Arabian.

Pocahontas: Powhatan (Native American)

The movie is set in Jamestown, Virginia, USA. It's one of the main aspects of the plot.

Mulan: China

There is a lot of Chinese elements in the movie: The Emperor of China, the Wall of China, Chinese names, the characters' physical appearance, the culture, the Ancestors, dragons.

Tiana: American

New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. The opening song is called "Down in New Orleans". Tiana's specialty is gumbo, which is, I believe, a dish of Cajun Cuisine. There's also a bayou in the movie and Lottie has a southern accent, no?

Rapunzel: German or Austrian

I don't know what to say. But I think the clothing is from Renaissance, the authors of the fairytale are the Brothers Grimm and Mozart is mentioned. He is Austrian, I believe.

Merida: Scotish

The Stonehenge circles shown in the movie, the characters' accent and the men wear kilts - and other cultural symbols, but I don't know them.

Correct for Sleeping Beauty because of the old national anthem of France which everyone should respect by taking off your hats to place them under hearts when it plays.

Well OF COURSE Belle was from France! Belle literally means "Beautiful" in French and the title of the movie is "Beauty and the Beast". (;
So if it had been "Belle and the Beast", it would've meant the same thing. Isn't that a cool way of thinking? o.o

- Snow White & Rapunzel are most likely German.
- Cinderella & Belle are French.
- Aurora is either English or French.
- Ariel is from the sea, so...But the story's said to be set in Denmark where it originated from.
- Jasmine is from the fictional city of Agrabah, but I like to think Agrabah eventually became Agra, India, and the palace became the Taj Mahal. As an Indian-American, I can say I saw a lot of aspects of Indian culture in the film, much more than Middle-Eastern.
- Pocahontas is Native American.
- Megara is Greek.
- Mulan is Mandarin Chinese.
- Kida is from the lost continent of Atlantis, so she'd be Atlantean.
- Tiana is African-American.
- Merida is Scottish.
- Elsa & Anna are from Arendelle, but it was based on Norway.

Oh, and the upcoming Disney Princess, Moana, is said to be a Pacific Islander, so probably Polynesian. Can't wait for that one! :D

Not all of these have solid proof, because sometimes its impossible to answer without guessing, but here we go;
Snow White- Germany (Just seems to be the word on the subject, I don't know for sure.)
Cinderella-France (I feel this one is definitely France, as the words 'stately chateau' are used in the opening narration.)
Aurora- Somewhere in Europe (pretty much anyones guess, but it is somewhere that had neighbouring royal families in the 14th century).
Ariel- Denmark/France (Again, here we play a guessing game. Everything you read says Denmark, but other things make you think it could be french, eg. Chef louie and his accent, Ariel holding a baguette and wearing a Napoleon hat while driving the carriage).
Belle-France (The original story was french, Lumiere sings "after all miss, this is France" plus, many signs in the poor provincial town, Lumiere has a french accent and it seems everyone just knows it)
Jasmine - Arabia (everyone knows they live in the made up city of Agribah, as it is clearly stated in the film, but also, there is a song in the beginning with lyrics "arabian nights..." So it is at least definitely middle eastern)
Pocahontas- America, specifically Virginia. (Mentioned and obvious in the film, plus it is based on a true american story).
Mulan- China (its mention a bunch of times by various characters like her dad, and the whole theme just screams china with dragons etc)
Tiana- America (Obvious and the song sung many times featuring the line "Dreams do come true in new Orleans")
Rapunzel- Apparently Germany/Mystery ( I've read everywhere that it is set in Germany, because that is where the tale originated from, But really it is in a made up kingdom, which doesn't even have a name it is just called 'the kingdom' and has a sun for it's symbol)
Merida - Scotland (Her accent and hair colour are a dead give away if nothing else is. Plus you've got celtic ruins and such so its at least safe to say in that United kingdom area.)
Frozen- Norway ( It's been said everywhere and its quite believable given the climate shown in the film, so good enough for me. If you don't think so, you can at least count on the fact that it is set in the imaginary kingdom of Arendelle, somewhere close to the vicinity of wesletown).
Wooooo i love the princesses, devoted my whole life (20 years) to loving them!

for those of you that don't know... Snow White is German. Everything about her and the settings besides some animals scream Germany....Cinderella is Dutch. At the beginning of the movie it gives it away. Remember this was based in the 13th-14th century, which means most of Europe spoke French. Just because her STEP mother has a french last name means literally nothing. The French moved to other countries all the time....Aurora is English. The beginning of the movie is based in New Forest....Ariel is Danish. If you listen to Ursula sing she states Caspian sea. Pocahontas is Powhatan. And to be honest she was only 14 when she helped the English....Mulan- Chinese....Tiana is Creole. She comes from New Orleans and there people are Creole, not French, not Cajun, they are mixed with several culturals....Rapunzel is German. From bulidings to everything else. Remember this isn't modern day....Belle is French. Almost every persons name is French, the setting, everything....Merida is Scottish. It says it in the movie.....Jasmine is Arab. The beginning they are singing Araibian nights, can't get much clearer than that....Elsa/Anna are Norwegian. If you look through out the movie they drop little hints about where they are.

Finally, in 2018, the Polynesian Princess, Moana Wailiki will be introduced in the Disney Film, "Moana". She is expected to be included in the Official Disney Princess Lineup. Aurora isn't english, she's either french or german because there are french and german symbol in the movie, the french monarchic anthem is played and you can meet her at the France's pavillon at EPCOT. Anna and Elsa are definitely Norwegian, Jasmine is Arabic, but not necessary from Iraq

Aurora is English, I have proof the forest she sings Once Upon a Dream is actually the New Forest which is located in Hampshire, South East England and I have more evidence to support this most characters in the movie speak with English accents including Aurora and as far as your mention of the French monacrhy goes the film took place in the 14th century, a time period in which French was a recognised language in England so there you go I have all the proof that Aurora's English

Agree with LibelluleBleu because the name of the French national anthem is called Marche of King Henry IV. So that gives you a clue. National anthems are very important to support our country.
