She does make very good points sometimes (see her BatM remake video) but she does come off as a virtue signaller sometimes. It's why I'm afraid to watch her Pocahontas video.over a year ago
She's annoying - and mostly dead to me after what she said about The Prince of Egypt. Which is apparently a really bad movie because there's violence in it and she doesn't like the source material. It's wild that she earns money doing this shit.over a year ago
I give Lindsay Ellis credit where it's due but I was watching her Pocahontas/Moana video, and while she had a general point about Moana being an improvement over Pocahontas in a lot of ways, she is STILL very much full of crap. Her point about PATF was so obnoxious, like heaven forbid there be both good white people and evil white people, and heaven forbid racism be SUBTLE.

Got back from seeing How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, and it was the perfect way to end the franchise. Though there was some cons I will say the good things were the score and the animation.

I did ask her for an interview with Jackie Evancho and I NEED SOME HELP! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean, I have no problem meeting a celebrity consider that I am friends with Michelle Yeoh. But, interview is another thing, like what kind of questions do I ask Jackie?

So my next movies to see on my list are The Hidden World and Captain Marvel, which one would you guys rather see if interested in them?
Posted over a year ago
Hey guys I just finished watching How to Train Your Dragon The Hidden World! I thought it was okay, not as good as the first two but, as usual, the animation was amazing and I loved seeing the new dragons in this movie. In the comments I’ll put in the pros and cons of this movie. WARNING: SPOILERS
Posted over a year ago
I’ll start with the cons first because, personally, I prefer hearing bad news before good news. So let’s start with the beginning of the movie. It looked at first it was going to be totally badass and I actually got excited but then as quickly as it begins, the badass immediately ends with starting the comic relief. I like comic relief as long as it’s done well like Timon and Pumbaa in The Lion King and Mushi in Mulan. But the comic relief in this movie....it was way too much. Don’t get me wrong, I love Hiccup and the rest of the dragon riders but the way it’s done is so out of nowhere and it was so much like the Netflix show.over a year ago
Snotlout is, once again, this overly-cocky narcissistic jerk, the twins are overly annoying, and Fishlegs has almost no screen time by comparison. Oh and Snotlout randomly has a thing for Valka? It’s just so out of nowhere and it goes nowhere. At least in the second movie when Fishlegs and Snotlout randomly crushed on Ruffnut it wasn’t as annoying or random. Now, the villain. The villain in this one, honestly.....a little blah compared to Drago. I kept wondering if I was just watching the Netflix show on the big screen because that’s how blah he was to me. I didn’t feel the same fear I felt when Drago was on screen and the dragon from the first movie was more terrifying compared to this new villain. I mean, this is the guy who apparently killed off all the Night Furies and I still felt nothing!over a year ago
Another issue I had was Eret.I absolutely LOVED Eret in the second movie and I love his voice actor Kit Harrington (aka Jon Snow) but he barely had any screen time, and when he did have screen time it was just so Snotlout can be jealous of him (really? They had to go down that route?) and we never got to see him with Skullcrusher until near the end of the movie and it was only for a few seconds. And finally, the biggest issue I had with this movie was....we barely got to see the Hidden World. You know all those scenes we see in the commercials? Yeah that was it! There’s barely anything else! I was so looking forward to see it all, I thought it was going to be like that place in the second movie valka took hiccup but it was soooo disappointing!over a year ago
Now for the pros! Okay like I said at the beginning of this, the beginning looked pretty badass in the short time it was happening. And we got to see Hiccup and the others fight instead of just their dragons and Astrid. The animation was beautiful as always and the soundtrack was nice, though not as nice as the the first two. The dragons all had interesting designs, especially the ones the villain controlled. This time, instead of just saying the villain controls the dragons just for the sake of it, there’s an actual explanation where he’s drugging them with their own venom at all times so they can stay controlled. And he feeds them dragons. We don’t actually see it, it’s only mentioned once, almost missed it.over a year ago
Hiccup and Astrid had some good scenes together, their joking around just as funny as the last one and the way they support each other was always fun to see. Toothless with the Light Fury were both a little silly and beautiful and of course Toothless did one of his classic drawings for her which was still funny. Near the end of the movie I did get teary-eyed when Hiccup and Toothless said goodbye and later on when they were reunited. The reunion was fun and beautiful though my one complaint is that it’s clearly supposed to be a time skip but Hiccup and Astrid look almost exactly the same except Hiccup had a beard.over a year ago
So would I watch this again? Maybe if it was on Netflix or in the library. I do still recommend you all to check it out, a lot of you might like it more than the first one or you might just prefer the first one like I did or you’ll just be happy to watch a movie about dragons. Either way, check it out!over a year ago
I hate to bother you guys, but would you do me a favor and report this guy, Jokeuih? He’s an ant-Trump troll that has been on here for about three months now with different accounts, trashing the Donald Trump club and trolling the members. it's funny because when they make comments like that they think they're being #feminist but really they're extremely misogynistic. if they think a girl who sings about a Prince is deserving of less respect than a girl who fights in a war then really these people don't actually care about women at all. In my opinion feminism is about equality and choices. Women should be allowed to want a relationship without being looked down on and women should be allowed to be housewives or in the military if they want toover a year ago

I have some news I've been meaning to share with all of you. Back on February 1st, I officially got a girlfriend. Yeah, that was...a thing. I did like certain little nods to the show, and it wasn't as bad as I'd thought it'd be, but still not good. It was predictable and cheesy.over a year ago
Tumblr sometimes is just so ridiculous XD New female character in the trailer and everyone going crazy about it like: "omg, that's Elsa's girlfriend" wtf people, she is a kid?! XD I don't really understand why everyone want to force Elsa into a relationship....hope Disney will leave her "alone"!
Posted over a year ago
Ikr I saw those posts on Tumblr. I thought the whole point of the movie was that Elsa don't need to be in a relationship. Plus Disney know this shit won't sell in countries like China and Japan.over a year ago
That girlfriend rumor is stupid xD it would be better if she stays as an independent young woman instead of giving her a partner...also some countries won't accept that :pover a year ago
I don't mind the girlxgirl relationship IF the reason is not fanservice(would be a big step for Disney but they won't do it imo),like it would be in Elsa's case. Elsa is such a strong & brave female character enough,no need for a love interest to make her strong imo.over a year ago
When I first saw the trailer, I thought the kid was Anna, but I looked again. I could see her staying 'single', but doing that thing they did with Le Fou (remake). Sort of hinting at something, maybe she'll look at someone a certain way and you can interpret it anyway you'd like. But hey, that's only a prediction.over a year ago
If they do a lesbian relationship I don’t want it to be with Elsa because it would obviously be because fans were demanding it. There’s shows an movies that introduced same sex relationships and do a fantastic job of it but then there’s some that just feels like they were just thrown in to please the fans.over a year ago
I go to tumblr and people shipping Elsa with a female character (even despite the age difference) sounds about right lol. I’m not saying all users will ship an adult with a child but there are users who will just ship anything that moves. Then you got users who see two same sex characters and just scream “THEY’RE GAAAAAAAY” like I’m all about shipping and I don’t like to look down on other people’s ships (though it does depend) but when it involves characters we know next to nothing about it just seems sillyover a year ago
There are two new character, one boy and one girl and they seems to be younger than Elsa and Anna. I can't see the boy clearly but the girl looks kinda similar with Moana and it seems like she's poc.over a year ago

Screaming boycott is a little bit too immature and immediate at this point. The movie has several months before release so let's wait till we get closer to release date. As someone who was NEVER a big fan of the How to Train Your Dragon franchise to begin with, I'm actually really interested and excited about the third movie (Despite some jokes in the trailer that made me facepalm). The original movie was predictable and cliche to the point of being forgettable, lifeless and awful. The second movie was good and a MASSIVE improvement over the original, but had its problems, like Hiccup being so mind-numbingly stupid and annoying.

There's been a lot of discussion lately about which recent DP films have been mocking the classical Disney fairy tale tropes, and by extension, the Disney Princesses. I was wondering if there was an interest in doing a countdown for all the recent DP films and ranking them in order by how offensive people think them to be. And if so, should the live-action features (Enchanted, Maleficent, Cinderella, and Beauty and the Beast) be counted as well?
Posted over a year ago
@sparklefairy375 - Lots of topics seem to be offensive here but this topic keeps popping up. At least it would be contained to a poll of relevant discussion then.over a year ago
@phalangeregina - the fact that the movie was criticized is even more reason to include it to discuss why people were not fond of it. Your post has convinced me to include the live-action features lol.over a year ago
Thanks everyone for their input! I went ahead and uploaded the poll. I expect discussion to hold varied views since this is a highly contested topic, but I'm sure everyone will keep it civil. Hope to read everyone's thoughts!over a year ago
In my country, civility is considered the proper decorum and I would expect likewise behavior from the denizens of this forum. That is how it is done in my country and how it ought to be done everywhere else.over a year ago

I was just doing a HOND marathon, and I'm currently watching HOND II, which is a suprisingly underrated gem. But I don't really love Josh Gad. He didn't quite amuse me as Olaf in Frozen, nor as LeFou in the live action Beauty and the Beast. I don't know what to think, except ho-hum. Especially, since most of the remakes ( save Cinderella) have been mediocre/subpar so far.over a year ago
Is this official or just a rumour? Will definitely check it out. Josh Gad is fine but I'm not really sure if he's the best choice to play Quasimodo tho.over a year ago
To Sparklefairy375: I think it's official. Josh Gad playing Quasimoto is a rumor, though. And that's something I'd like to point out. To everyone else: I want to apologize for that error I made. Josh Gad is actually RUMORED to play Quasimoto.over a year ago
I knew this day would come yet I'm not prepared. :'( Sadly I think I'm destined to hate it even if it's not bad simply because it's not the original (I mean the original animated movie), but I hope with all my heart it goes beyond my expectations and proves me wrong.over a year ago

This month I watched Prince of Egypt for the very first time. It's truly a masterpiece. My favorite thing about this movie are its characters. No single lame, generic or boring character. Even the most minor ones are very remarkable, special, unomittable and leave a strong impression. But it's also a very sad movie, PoE and Mulan are only animated movies that make me cry as an adult( yes, only two, no mistake). Even the ending saddened me more than the ending of any Disney movie.
Posted over a year ago
So glad you watched it. It's possibly my favorite animated movie ever. It's animation and soundtrack alone are phenomenal, but like you said, the characters and plot line are great as well. It does a good job of showing that there may be two sides but it isn't just black and white, good and evil. Pretty tragic, really.over a year ago
@MalloMar, the animation and soundtrack are indeed great but the biggest reason I consider this movie a masterpiece are characters. It has a better cast than any other animated movie I've seen. I adore Seti, Tuya, Jethro, Hotep and Huy, despite them being minor characters. I think that movie also shows that the sometimes remaning innocent and not harming anyone isn't possible, regardless of your choice. Yes, flawless. And, yes, very, very tragic.over a year ago
One thing I love about this movie is it makes the most out of every character. Like Adelital said even the minor character leaves some kind of impact and that's so rare to find in most movies. For example, Jethro had only a few scenes and a song but he's still memorable and he had a purpose rather than just being a character who is just thereover a year ago
@BB2010, Jethro is terrific! He is so warm, wise, charming, touching, charismatic and his song made me cry. Another good example is Seti who had small screentime and his most important( for story) act isn't seen on-screen and was a very cruel act but the movie still made it clear that Seti was no Frollo. "One thing I love about this movie is it makes the most out of every character. Like Adelital said even the minor character leaves some kind of impact and that's so rare to find in most movies." - these are my exact thoughts!over a year ago
^seriously they could have just made Seti this strict dad and just mentioned his actions at the beginning of the movie once and called it good. But instead we see him trying to comfort Moses after he finds out what happened the Hebrew babies. I especially liked how he looked like he almost regretted what he had to do but then said "They were only slaves" as if that was supposed to comfort Moses. I can see Frollo saying something like that but somehow I feel like it wouldn't leave as much impact as the way Seti said itover a year ago

I personally think it's an awful movie! The music is nice and all but that's it. The characters are either annoying or boring (Either way, they're poorly written), the story/writing is an absolute mess, the animation is hideous, it tries too hard to be adult by being overly crass and perverted to where it comes off as juvenile, the villain is lame and makes every amateur villain mistake in the book, and is just awful in my opinion. Plus, along with the hideous animation, the designs are terrible as well. Omar looks like he got his nose stuck in a door, Angel looks like Lindsay Lohan after the drugs and before she got sober, Mok looks like Angelina Jolie's mummified corpse, and the rest of the characters look like reject characters from Goof Troop that live on the bad and trashy side of town. If anyone here enjoys it, good for you, but I think it's awful.over a year ago
Also another movie I found weird that my brother recently watched was a film called Heavy Metal and I gotta say, it's stranger than Rock & Ruleover a year ago

My husband and I saw Glass today and we both have different feelings for it. I thought it was kinda boring and the ending disappointed me a little bit, he thought it was as great as Unbreakable and Split. The twist was great though and I’m thinking that maybe if I watched the movie again I might enjoy it a little more but Glass didn’t grab me like Split did.

^I really do suggest you do. I watched Split first and it didn't really confuse me because it was made to look like a standalone film, it's not clear it's a sequel to Unbreakable until the very end of the movieover a year ago
Sad news guys, my dad's ex-colleague's wife has unexpectedly passed on of cancer. Please pray for the family during bereavement period.

Hi guys, do you all know that Hayao Miyazaki? At one point, he describes Beauty and the Beast is like a psychiatric patient and his counsellor. What do you think?
Posted over a year ago
Sure. I love Hayao Miyazaki's stuff. I love Nausicaa, Princess Mononoke, Kiki, Spirited Away, Totoro, and the Lupin stuff. Beauty and the Beast has always had a weird vibe for me, that I didn't love. For instance, I've liked other Grimm fairytales more.... I work in mental health, so I can at least see some of what Hayao Miyazaki is saying about the dynamic bewteen Belle and Adam. But, in the end, it's just a fairytale. And since I work with an abused population of patients, I don't find that story of Beauty and the Beast ( or the movies) as satisfying as other stories/films.over a year ago
I can see that as well. Belle is practically a poster child for the manic pixie dream girl stereotype, and a main feature of that is "fixing" a male romantic interest of his problems. Obviously comparing an abusive relationship to a counselor/patient relationship is problematic, but I can see why he would look at it that way.over a year ago
Honestly I feel the above comment applies more to Rapunzel which is why she is my least favorite princess. Very generic and the epitome of the manic pixie girl and Mary Sue. Flynn Rider is a much more problematic love interest yet I rarely hear people criticize how Rapunzel "fixes" him, perhaps because more people fixate on her abusive relationship with Gothel.over a year ago
^ Disagree. I think Beast is much more problematic. I don't support thefty and very aggressive and violent men is something extremely repulsive to me. Especially I hate when they are complimented for manliness.over a year ago
Finally saw Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse with some of my friends and wow it was AWESOME! I can see why it won the Golden Globe for best animated film. I would see it again.

That movie was so awesome! I was kinda disappointed they decided to do a surprise villain for this movie too but at least with this one it didn’t frustrate me as much as when Disney does it. And the animation for each Spider person is so fun to watch and I love that they each have their own unique styles :)over a year ago
Hey guys is anybody interested in doing some more of the images for the Meet The DP Fans article? We still have about half of them that need to be done.

Always has been. Somehow the Disney Princess fans found their way here...and there have always been some active members to keep it alive.over a year ago
I just finished watching the Netflix movie Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle and it was absolutely amazing. It was really refreshing to have a faithful adaptation to the story of Mowgli (Since it's not the only story from The Jungle Book, only the first three chapters). First, I must say that when you watch it, FORGET about both of the Disney versions because the original story is nothing like them AT ALL. Disney took A LOT of liberties with the animated film

Walt even told the people working on the movie to not even read the book, which is the most insulting thing you can do when adapting a story. Anyway, the story here was very complex but flowed well to where you can understand it very well, the acting was absolutely phenomenal, Mowgli himself is a complex and interesting character (This is the best adaption of the character BY FAR), the visuals are great, and the characters are likable and fascinating. I love how Kaa wasn't a villain but instead she was an ancient soul of the jungle that can see the past and future, acts like a mentor to Mowgli in a sense, and wants to keep the jungle safe and thinks that Mowgli is the key to bringing peace to the jungle. Mowgli's journey and coming of age story was very fascinating and the kid playing him really nails it. You can feel his emotional struggle but also see him as a likable character even without his complexity.over a year ago
The visuals/CGI wasn't as good as the live-action Disney Jungle Book movie because the texture isn't as good and they look a little big more animated compared to the Disney version. Also, for those of you who aren't aware, Baloo is the book isn't the character you think of because of Disney. He is actually more like a drill sergeant, which shows how Disney clearly didn't even try to follow the book. I mean, the animated film is good on its own, but is clearly inferior to both the live-action remake and especially to Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle. It doesn't follow the book 100% but thats to be expected when adapting a story and this movie did it amazingly well. Besides, if it were to be 100% like the book, Mowgli would be butt naked for almost all of the film and lets face it, for OBVIOUS reasons, there is NO WAY that any studio would okay that. Overall, an amazing movie that I recommend you check out. But definitely forget about the Disney versions!over a year ago
I really don’t want to watch this movie mainly because of how the animals look. I’d watch it and try to enjoy it but the animals would be way too distracting for meover a year ago
I added my research paper about Wicked, The Wiz, and my college's production of The Wizard of Oz here on Fanpop. I hope you guys will check it out and comment letting me know what you think. Enjoy!
Spending Christmas with my husband, gonna open presents, eat some good food, and watch a bunch of christmas specials. Do you have any plans?over a year ago
I don't have any plans, sadly. I'm moving around with my dad again. His job keep us moving from one county to another. unfortunately, this time themoving happen to be near christmas, so i guess i will be spending time on airports and hotels till we could find new house to settle in.over a year ago
I'm working for Christmas. It's okay, since that's not the holiday I technically celebrate, anyway. And I am paid much more than normal hourly pay for working, then.over a year ago
The same thing as BB2010. It’s the first Christmas alone in very long time. My grandparents used to stay with us every year. But they’re both dead. My grandad died when I was about 13 years old. My grandma died earlier this year in February. So it will be a quiet Christmas at home, just me and my parents. We’ll probably Skype my mum’s side of the family. But we won’t be seeing anyone until after Christmas and New Year.over a year ago
Just with mom and dad, then my sister and niece will come after christmas, except this year, my brother in law won't be joining us this year because of their stupid separation :'(over a year ago
Wohoo!! The Little Mermaid, my all-time favorite movie will be released in 4K next year! Sources says it will be released on February 26th, 2019. That is one day after my birthday! I'm SO excited!! My favorite Movie in Ultra HD!

Does anyone else ever do their makeup and it just goes horribly so they take it all off and do something simpler/easier? Because I just did that... T_T

Today, I'm going to try to finish my 10-page research paper, which is actually a really fun (Though exhausting) one to work on. It's for an independent Theatre study class I've been taking where I have to talk about and compare the Broadway shows Wicked, The Wiz, and my college's production of The Wizard of Oz. I might post it on Fanpop when I'm done. As a HUGE fan of the world of Oz, this is something that is a lot of fun for me. But I better get back to work.

That sounds super cool! I had a few research papers in college that I loved. One was on how Disney Princess films, specifically Cinderella, fetishize their heroines.over a year ago
