Well, I finished watching Pocahontas 2: Journey To A New World and while I don't hate it as much as I did a few years ago (back when I thought it was the worst Disney movie EVER), it's still pretty bad. One of my biggest disappointments with this movie is that it actually had the potential to be very good. It did continue the story and show what Pocahontas would've been like in a different environment. I like some of the ideas more than the execution *continues to type in comments* Posted over a year ago
KataraLover commented…
Unfortunately, it's trying to appeal to those dumbass historians that complained that the original movie was historically inaccurate and didn't realize the simple fact that Disney isn't supposed to educated but instead entertain people and that it's the teachers jobs to educate children. Anyway, it tries too hard to make it more historically inaccurate but becomes contrived with a lot of other historical inaccuracies that clash with it, making it very clunky. The timeline is also pretty lazy because how would Pocahontas know that John Smith was dead if it had just happened but they said that much time had past since the news of his death? HOW? How is it that Ratcliffe managed to manipulated the King when he said himself he was never a popular man and that Jamestown was his last shot? How was he able to go against the word of the other settlers that arrested him for treason? HOW? Plus Pocahontas and John Rolfe's relationship is very forced, contrived, and unnecessary. over a year ago
KataraLover commented…
Rolfe's character development feels even more forced than Smith's (who I felt was done decently) and doesn't even feel like he changed that much. The relationship with Pocahontas and Smith was destroyed by having her seem so emotionless with finding out he was alive and him no longer understanding her. WHAT IS THE DEAL? The only good things are the idea of Pocahontas going to London, the decent animation, the songs, the emotional goodbye between Pocahontas and Nakoma, Mrs. Jenkins, for the most part staying true to the characters, John Rolfe (who is a decent character), and that guy that never talks and has that stick. Overall, yeah, it's an awful movie but no where near one of the worst Disney movies. But it's definitely one of the worst Disney sequels. over a year ago
cruella commented…
I don't care much for either movie. And while I know the sequel isn't nearly as good as the first I still like it a little bit better. over a year ago
shanyuisboss commented…
I agree that the movie is terrible, I seriously hate it so much, I don't even acknowledge it's existence. Although regarding the thing about historical accuracy, I think the reason people criticized Pocahontas's lack of historical accuracy was more because John Smith in real life wasn't a very good person. Portraying him as someone that falls in love with a Native American woman just doesn't make any sense for the real jerk he was. People will kind of start to look at him like a good guy or whatever. I'm just saying, this is why they criticize the accuracy. Not that I really care much at all. over a year ago

Just returned from the Cinema, was watching Jurassic World with my sister and some friends. :D Great movie! I freaking LOVED it! I won't post any spoilers for those who haven't seen it yet, but I almost jumped out of my seat, when the Mososaurus showed up! Now, the Mososaurus shows up 3 times in the movie and the final time, my right leg went flying up! Did NOT see that coming! Scary s**t! Haha! Had a great laugh about that with my friends and sister! xD Are any of you going to see it? Posted over a year ago

I'm not but then again I was never really into Jurassic Park. I've only seen the third movie, which is a bad one but that was only because my cousins made me watch it when I was little. Honestly, Jurassic Park just never really interested me, so Jurassic World don't interest me either. But I know my cousins are going to be rushing to the movie theater to see it. The way everyone is excited about Jurassic World is how I'm gonna be when the Power Rangers reboot movie finally comes out in like 2017. over a year ago

Have any of you ever seen the show Green Acres? I just saw it today for the first time and it's pretty funny. What got me to sit down and watch it was that one of the two main characters is played by Eva Gabor, the voice of Mis Bianca from The Rescuers movies and Duchess in The Aristocats. She's pretty funny and I just love her voice, even though I do keep on hearing Miss Bianca. I saw the one where her character is trying to make hunting illegal. She even rents a plane to warn the animals lol. Posted over a year ago

Okay, I have several questions about the live movie viewing I mentioned yesterday:
1. Should there be one or more live movie viewings a week? If more, how many?
2. What day(s) of the week should they be on? Should we do any on holidays?
3. Should we watch 1 DP movie for one week, and then a Disney movie the following week? Or should it be the other way around? Or 1 DP and 1 Disney movie in one week?
4. Would you like the comments from the live movie viewings to be put in an article? Posted over a year ago

1) I think one movie for a week is a good option. 2) I also think weekends and Friday, not on holidays. 3) I don't know, I think we shouldn't count DP movies separate from other Disney movies. They are all Disney after all. 4. Maybe the most interesting opinions etc. over a year ago

1. One a week; 2. Fridays or Saturdays. In holidays... I'm not sure. I think some of us would like to watch a Disney movie in a cozy Christmas morning, but we'll have to see how it works out first; 3. We should vote for whst movie we'd like to see, with no distinction between princess and non-princess. After all, there are just a few DP movies; 4. Yes, that would show what thd consensus is. over a year ago

Just a random (possibly horrible) idea: I think it'd be interesting if a large group of people from this club watched a Disney or Disney Princess movie at the same time. Just watched Home on the Range. It's not the first time I've seen it, but the first time since I was a child. Now I was able to look at it from a more critical point of view. It's really mediocre, with is slapstick humor (slaptick can be hilarious, but it must be done right) and brain-scratching, contrived plot. I don't get why Alameda Slim's yodeling hypnotizes the cattle, nor why the cow Grace is immune to it due to singing off-key. Posted over a year ago
Silverrose1991 commented…
There were at least two jokes I found funny, though: one was when Mrs. Calloway said "Haven't you heard of sarcasm?" (I don't know how it's worded in the English dubbing), and the other... I can't remember now. It definitely was witty, and not slapsticky, though. The animation is good... Maybe a bit too cartoony, but it suits the movie's style. The soundtrack is really, really good - the Brazilian soundtrack, at least. I don't know about the original. The characters... I like the farmer Pearl, the Sheriff's dog, the livestock and the villain is decent. However, his nephews and the guy who buys cattle from him are sooooo annoying. Even their design is an eyesore. Buck, the horse, is even more annoying. He's so selfish and self-centered! Ugh, I absolutely loved the scene where the cows refused to help him get into Slim's hideaway. over a year ago
Silverrose1991 commented…
Speaking of the cows... They're promising, Mrs. Calloway in particular (though I hate her hat gag), and their dynamics are mostly OK, but it felt so much like I was watching some sort of Flora, Fauna and Merryweather wannabe sketch. But the most disappointing - and perhaps, at the same time, the most comforting thing - about Home on the Range is that it doesn't feel like a Disney movie. over a year ago

Plus I don't like that she played the damsel in distress (since she's such a badass) but they did fix that *continues to type in comments* Posted over a year ago
KataraLover commented…
I guess I can forgive her damsel in distress moment because she does defeat the villain in the end but I find it hard to believe that she got caught in the first place. I mean, when you see how she can take down pretty much anyone with out badass she is. It just seem a little out of character in my opinion. The jokes are funny but a lot of them are pretty forced, the songs are even cheesier than the songs in the original, the characters aren't as fleshed out, it's kind of gimmicky, and I wish that Kermit and Miss Piggy would GET MARRIED ALREADY! Anyway, it's a good movie and I do find the last third to be the most engaging part but I just couldn't feel much for it. But when I first saw the trailer for it, I thought it would be stupid but it wasn't. So I do recommend it, but not highly. over a year ago

I ADORE that movie and actually like it more than the animated one because it actually keeps it's focus on Cinderella instead of the stupid mice and cat. Plus they actually do develop the Prince and give some depth to Lady Tremaine. If I had to nitpick over one thing, it would be that they didn't give Anastasia any depth like they did in the sequels or in Once Upon A Time In Wonderland. But that's more of a personal thing. It's a brilliant film that shows how a live-action remake should be done. Not to deviate too much from the original source material but also do something new. I'm glad you enjoyed it! over a year ago

Yesterday I watched a series of videos telling about the career of Don Bluth and when it got to Thumbelina I found out something pretty interesting. The short clip was the Disney opening logo. That small clip made a difference because people LOVED it! *continues to type in comments* Posted over a year ago

They praised it and went on about how much they loved that "Disney movie," even though it wasn't really Disney. There are new informations about Tangled tv series. First of all, it will be in 2D! It takes place between the movie and Tangled Ever After, but Rapunzel still has her long, blonde hair. Well, I guess in this case this little plot hole can be accepted. Posted over a year ago

I'm actually really happy about the 2D thing, honestly — for TV shows I think that 3D often looks rather cheap. And Rapunzel keeping her hair seems kind of like a way for Disney to sell even more of those Rapunzel dolls with long hair, but I don't mind too much. over a year ago

I think I tried discussing this here and I offended an user so I stopped. But since we're on a feminist trend.. it's understandable why modern day feminism gets a bad rep. Ex. A good number of self-proclaimed feminists expect men to pay for mostly everything. I also have to say that I disagree with Doug Walker/The Nostalgia Critic (who I am a big fan of) about the songs in Tarzan. The instrumental music really feels like the jungle and has a sort of African feel to it. Plus the songs do tell how the character is feeling and move the story. KataraLover commented…
Okay, so those are the good stuff, now let's get to the not so good stuff. Hercules himself isn't very interesting. At the beginning I was invested in him because he's a charming outcast that wants to make something of himself. That's a cliche but it's one that I enjoy. However, when he grows up is when I lose my interest in him because he's all brawn and no brains. He never thinks before doing anything, which is surprising because Phil has been training him since he was like 15 or something? Shouldn't he know by now to think before acting. He relies too much on his brawn and never uses his brain, despite Phil telling him CONSTANTLY to use his noodle, although I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't have one. WOULD HE QUIT WITH THE HEAD SLICING THING? That doesn't mean I dislike him, he just frustrates me and I can't bring myself to like him. over a year ago
KataraLover commented…
I actually was more invested in Hades than I was with Hercules. I found myself doing a subtle evil laugh and having an evil smile on my face whenever Hades is doing evil and Hercules was losing. Anyway, Pain and Panic are lame evil minions, the writing is clunky, it's odd that Zeus could defeat the Titans LONG ago but now with a whole army of gods can't defeat them, the designs are horrible (I don't care if it's the style, that doesn't mean the style is good), they put a little too much stuff in, and it's a little rushed. Anyway, it's a good movie but definitely the weakest of the renaissance films. I understand why it has it's fans and haters but you can put me in the fan category, despite it's flaws. Well, it's time to watch TARZAN! Also, when Pain and Panic said "Oh my God!" I'm wondering which God their talking about, since in their world there is more than one God. There will be a new series about Merida, similar to 'Anna & Elsa' book series, and one of Palace Pets upcoming book's synopsis mention Merida, so she will probably have a pet soon. There will be albo Sofia the First episode and book with Merida soon. Also not only Mulan, but even Pocahontas is on two books covers! I don't remember when was the last time she appeared on the cover or in the comic in DP magazine. I can't wait for new pictures with them! Posted over a year ago

i feel bad for not participating in more of the lists but they all seem to require much more thought on my part than the "favorite DP" list. i feel like people generally know which DPs they like and dislike already; they have that list in the back of their heads. i'm having a much harder time deciding how to rank movies and villains and stuff. and i feel like i'd have to go back and re-watch some of them (and i really don't want to re-watch cinderella) to know for sure. Posted over a year ago

Silverrose1991 commented…
^Hum, because she doesn't like it, and that's perfectly fine? Anyway, I'd tell you not to worry too much. Watch only what you feel like watching and then, on the deadline day, just put together list you think is more or less accurate and submit it. I know how you feel, because I'm having to rewatch the movies too, and I don't really feel like rewatching, say, Brave or Pocahontas. So far, I've rewatch BatB and Walt's movies. I plan on watching TLM today, and then Tangled and another movie I have yet to pick tomorrow. over a year ago

I don't have a list, but I throw one together, even if I'm not satisfied with it, simply to be included in the countdown. I probably should rewatch a lot of the DP movies, too. over a year ago

I was hoping she'd be fourteen, as many commonly believed. I guess age doesn't matter that much to me, but it'd be awesome to see more kids/younger teens as the main protagonist. Big Hero 6 has a young teen protagonist, of course, and I wouldn't mind if that continued. over a year ago

@wavesurf Bitter single females? Tiana and Belle have love interests whilst being intelligent and idependaant go-getters, Elsa is very popular with children too, being the oldest "DP" at that. Snow White is also classic as well, the age doesn't really determine a "sweet spot," but the character itself. And the older DPs aren't just bitter because they're older and have a better work ethic than the others. over a year ago

A few days ago, I saw The Avengers: Age of Ultron and I thought it was excellent! The effects and action scenes are amazing and the story is great. Admittedly, I think the story is better in the original but I prefer the characters in Age of Ultron because we get to know them better. They just assumed in the original that we knew them. I especially love that we go some of Black Widow's backstory, which is really interesting but I won't give anything away *continues in comments* Posted over a year ago
KataraLover commented…
But I guess I like Age of Ultron more because I'm more invested in the characters. But I really don't see where the couple of Black Widow and The Hulk came from. I thought she would end up with Captain America or Hawkeye. Her and Hulk don't really have any chemistry or even development. Was there something in the original that I missed? I also, while this is pretty shallow, just LOVE looking at Scarlett Johansson! I know there are some hyper Loki fans who do the same, so don't judge me! Anyway, great movie that I recommend, especially for superhero fans. over a year ago

I think the romance with the Hulk was cute. A little sudden, sure, but I think it was well done. There are hints here and there in the previous movie (and in the first film she just seems to have a platonic relationship with Hawkeye- who's imo the most boring of the team). I liked this film more than the first, mostly because that bitch Loki isn't in this one. over a year ago

Not sure if this proves if Anna and Elsa will be joining the Disney Princess line-up, but I saw both of them as included characters on a Disney Princess gummy box. When it comes to these types of books I think we all have to realize that it's not the actual girls these books are criticizing, but the over-glamorization by Disney. You know, the type that made it nearly impossible for me to get a soldier Mulan costume as a kid, even though that's how she was dressed for almost the entire movie. Not to say that they don't go to far, but the point is still there, at least when it comes to merchandise. over a year ago
