Disney Princess Do you think it's possible to create a fairytale heroine who is a perfect mixture of 'girly' and 'girl-power?'

Actually, they already did, imo. Rapunzel is very girly, from the purple dress, up to her line of interests - but he also has a lot of "girl power" when she swings her fying pan.

To me girly and girl power are synonymous. I don't consider weakness, passivity, and fragility "girly" traits, that's an insult to all girls. That's just how society made it traditionally in order to make girls who didn't fit that mold like less of a girl. I mean seriously just look at the wording and contest. Mulan is no less of a female than Aurora. They're different people.

i think they already did, i also think that just cause a girl likes pink or flowers or dresses or other "girly" things that doesn't mean she can't also kick butt. honestly those people that say that a girl can't like "girly" things and still be a feminist or also have "girl power" are just as bad as the people that think that a womens place is in the kitchen.

I was kinda wondering about that too. Being weak means being girly?

No, not weak. Just more of the traditional fairytale heroine. Most heroines in fairytales are known for the beauty and sweetness and love for a man rather than their dreams and adventures. I'm not saying that's 'girly', it's just traditionally what you imagine a 'fairytale princess' to be like. And I don't think either side is bad. I don't think it's bad to have a heroine who is more of a traditional 'princess,' but I don't necessarily think it would be beneficial either.

And I don't intend to play semantics, I was trying to make the pick to the point and easy to understand. Girly does not mean weak and pathetic. I meant do you think it's possible to make a heroine that pleases everybody?

@phantomrose89 You can't please everybody, least of all those who clamour for a feminist Disney Princess. And, as I said in my article series "rediscouvering Disney", they shouldn't even try to please the complainer, it wont end well. They should do what they think work in the movie.

agree ith dweeb. Mulan,Pocahontas and Rapunzel are both girly and badasses xp When I say girly I mean they are female , the way they act is female (ok except when Mulan is a soldier).

i don't think you can because the question is what is the standard for girly and the standard for girl-power. I think they are doing well with Ariel and Rapunzel but everyone would be closer to either being girly or "girl power"
