Its a mix, believe the impossible ( mermaid becoming a human) oddly the villian helped her achieve that, and the never giving up is listening to yourself. Ariel is very determined and headstrong in getting what she wants.

It's a little late for this. But I think the movie leaves the impression that Triton was in the wrong, not Ariel. She never even apologizes for all she's done, she just gets what she wanted all along. So I would say the message is to parents: if you deprive your child of freedom, they will lash out and do something reckless. LOL.
