12 Things in Beauty and the Beast That Are More Peculiar Than Belle

think that Belle is one strange bird. Not only do they discuss her eccentric father, the whole opening number is about how peculiar she is: ♫ Look there she goes a girl who’s strange but special, a most peculiar mademoiselle! ♫

that far outweigh the oddness of a girl who likes books better than Gaston. In fact, we think Belle might be the most relatable person in town. After all, who doesn’t dream of finding adventure in the great wide somewhere? Here is a list we have compiled of things that are, indeed, more peculiar than Belle:

This little boy frantically sprinting from an irritated swine is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the strange things in this town. Why is this pig running freely through the village? Why does the boy not have a better handle on this animal? Odd.

2. This distracted barber probably just started the most exciting new trend in the village by accidentally lopping off half of this patron’s mustache.

As the barber watches out the window and sings about Belle, he completely butchers this guy’s facial hair. First of all, rude. Second of all, this mustache is the only facial hair the barber’s client has and the barber is ruining it all just so he can gossip about a wonderful girl who just likes to read books.

This mother who is clearly in need of a break has been left to carry three babies around town with no help. But more than that, wouldn’t the townspeople find three seemingly identical newborn triplets more interesting than Belle? If this was current day, this lady would probably be Instagram famous.

4. This sentient sheep is reading Belle’s book.

Maybe we just caught the sheep at the right moment so it appeared that he was reading (there’s a sentence we never thought we’d write), but our hunch is that this is a highly cognitive sheep.

5. Gaston is climbing a roof to follow Belle, yet the townspeople continue to chant about

He is CLIMBING OVER ROOFTOPS to keep up with Belle. This is borderline obsessive behavior, which only heightens (see #9) as the movie progresses, but also it’s a physical feat that should be grabbing everyone’s attention.

6. Everyone says that Belle’s father, Maurice, is crazy. While we disagree that he’s crazy, he

Maurice is a bit eccentric, but in the most lovable, nerdy kind of way.

7. Gaston plans an entire wedding for him and Belle … before he has proposed to her.

The wedding he’s setting up before he’s even asked Belle to marry him took some serious forethought! If Beauty and the Beast took place today, Gaston would have created a massive wedding Pinterest board way too early in the relationship.

8. Every talking piece of furniture and silverware in Beast’s castle is pretty much the definition of “peculiar.”

Yep, this one checks out. Talking candlesticks and clocks are quite different from the usual and expected.

Okay, we understand there’s a curse on the castle and all, and it’s supposed to be spooky, but does this carriage have to crawl around like a spider?

10. The questionable choice that is Beast’s evening look.

His face pretty much says it all. Remind us not to ask for help from that hat stand when we’re getting ready for a date.

11. Gaston’s extensive taxidermy collection looks like it could be on a documentary special.

There is such a thing as too many rustic decorations, and this is what it looks like.

12. Beast’s transition back into handsome prince is truly unforgettable.

The scene where he transforms from Beast to man is likely something Belle will never forget, and is most definitely, more peculiar than she has ever been or ever will be.
