They're old enough to run (especially fast), are smart for their ages, but don't talk. I'd say 2 or 3. they're awfully precocious for any age like Lilo was, but are obviously supposed to be. If they weren't smart for their age they wouldn't be able to help Merida very much. Boys a bit older than that tend to have motor mouths.
I would say about 3 or 4. They're still pretty dependent on support from others, yet they're independent in that child-like way. They're able to run pretty fast and they're really wild and get into trouble a lot and that age-range is normally where the mischief starts.
