Disney Princess Question

What is the big deal about Rapunzel and Flynn?

I do like the both of them, but I never saw the hype about either one of them. Rapunzel and Flynn are pretty generic to me, even though they are likeable, and bring ABSOLUTELY NOTHING NEW to the princesses and princes. They are everyone's favourites now, and I don't see it. People hate the others even though for example Flynn have the same qualities that people dislike in the others. I think that the fan's reaction is why I am liking them less and less each day. I think Flynn's dialogue is corny, and Rapunzel does not warrant much interest to me. Can someone explain, so I can at least get the hype about boy of them?

Didn't you read my recent article about that topic? I explained in great detail why this pairing is different from all the other DP Pairings (and certainly something new).

I meant them as individuals, not a couple. But tht article was very detailed about all of the couples

I think they have the best chemistry and the best relationship. They're both equals and have a friendship as well as romantic interest. For me, their love story is the most realistic, and has the best story.

I see how they work as a couple, but I don't get the hype about them as individuals.

I guess it's just a matter of opinion ^^ I could list all the qualities I like about them (yeah, they do have flaws though) but if you don't really like them now... I don't think I could change your mind.

It's not that I don't like them; I do, but I just don't get the hype or the big deal that the general audience has of them. I would like to hear what you think

Flynn/Eugene's hype comes from his realism as a character. Yeah, he might be a little cliched, but he's a well rounded, three dimensional character who experiences real growth in the film. Plus he's witty, attractive, and sweet.
Rapunzel, I've touched on before, is an extremely calculated character. Everything about her was made with the general audience in mind, so she appeals to a very large group of characters.
Both are wonderful characters, and in response to liking certain qualities in Eugene yet hating them in others is pretty understandable. Every character is different, so certain traits work better with different characters. For example, selfishness works with Eugene and not Naveen because Eugene is more easily redeemed It's easier to excuse Eugene's actions as Flynn because of his self esteem than Naveen's actions as himself because he was raised as a prince to the general public, you feel me?
If you think about it, they do offer new things to the princesses/princes. We may have seen these individual traits and ideals before, but never in the same character. We've seen charming thieves and spunky princesses, but we've never seen an emotionally insecure man hiding behind the mask of a charming thief or an emotionally damaged young girl coming into her own as said spunky princess before. They're refreshing in their own way, and like I said, very well thought out.

Thank you for answering my question. I do agree with you that selfishness works better on Flynn than Naveen. Rapunzel does come form a naive, innocent character into a woman, which Snow White and Aurora never did. I never hated them and Tangled, because I do go on their Fanfiction, and did watch it more than a few times since it came out

I only don't understand why people hate Naveen but like Flynn? I'll have to re-watch the film to figure out why I like them so much because they are defiantly in my top 5 couple.

Because Neveen really is a womanzing A-hole, who plans to marry Lottie for her money, while Flynn is a construct Eugene created because he thought that nobody would care about Eugene. People don't like necessarily Flynn, the like Eugene, tho orphan who took care of the younger kids in the orphanage and dreamt of a better future.

Flynn uses his charm and sex appeal to get what he wants from girls, so clearly he slept around. And because of the fact that he chose to act like that made it no better. So he left his orphanage to be a lying, selfish rouge. He was putting a bit of a front, but he has been acting like that for a majority of his life , so it is second nature to him. He is really not much better than Naveen

Flynn? Sleeping around? Who becomes that messed up after a children's book? Let's be a bit reasonable here. He had his entire life as an orphan and he finally quit. He felt too sorry for himself and wanted to be like his imaginary big brother or his rolemodel. I don't think a kid would be the guy that gets all the ladies and dates each one of 'em. I think it was just an exaggeration or a comedy stunt to show that he, Flynnigan Rider, had everything. I could see him leaving a girl heartbroken but only in rejection like you see in Manga. 'I'm sorry, Kotoko. It's me, i'm not the guy you know...' I think Naveen is only a flirt and that guy in class who would do well in some of the subjects, but never takes it seriously and sees no point. He just does it by force, and he never find a meaning. Exactly with girls. He does it for women to be swooning over him- for praise. After Tiana I doubt that's what it's like. He found out what true love is like, and Tiana put him in the friendzone for a moment. He looked heartbroken. His flirting definitely ended at that point.

That would be different I guess. I just do not see how they are so interesting as characters that barely anyone explains
