I was dreaming.
Not one of Adrian's dreams though, no this one was my own.
And this one was a nightmare
I was all alone, wandering aimlesly down a dark street. The cold wind was biting at my ankles and rain was pouring out of the sky, pelting hard against my skin. There was thunder. Loud thunder and flashes of lightning. Tree's were being blown around, i was afraid that they would fall. I realized then that i wasn't all alone. There was a dark silhouette standing at the end of the road, i could hear the menacing laughter that shook their tall frame, it was too dark to make out any of their features but i knew who it was. I'd know them anywhere...Dimitri. He started approaching and when he was close enough i gasped. His eyes were ringed in red and his skin was pale white...he was a Strigoi.
As he started moving even closer i tried to find my stake. It was nowhere. I had no protection and i was sure that i was going to die. He moved lightning fast and i felt the pain before i could realize what was happening. He had bit my neck, but instead of the usually pleasure all i felt was pain. Burning, throbbing, mind-numbing pain which made a blood-curdling scream leave my lips.
I felt my body hit the ground with a loud thud and soon Dimitri's lips were at my ear. "Love Fades. Mine has." was all he said before turning around and leaving me there to die. And i was dying, there was no doubt in my mind. The rain continued to fall as his silhouette disappeared into the darkness and i curled myself up into a tight ball and sobbed. I was afraid of death but i could feel it coming for me.
The thunder was getting louder and louder until it sounded like someone was knocking...knocking?
Opening my eyes i realized there was someone knocking on the door. Slowly i made my way over to it, subconsiously holding my breath. Who would be knocking at my door? I was so sure that no-one would have been able to find me. Looking out the peep hole i was tempted to turn and climb out the bathroom window...but of course that wouldn't end well.
So i opened the door to find a Adrian on the other side and i was surprisingly happy to see him.
"Ah, Little dhampir, I thought I'd find you here." he smiled as he looked around me and examined the room, "Are you seriously staying here?"
I sighed, the place did look like a dump. "how did you know where i was?" I questioned curiously as he walked past me into the room.
That made him smile "You used the credit card i gave you. ...Plus this is the only town in miles so i figured you were here."
"Oh" was all i said. I was half asleep when i had used it, obviously i didn't think he could track it.
"So grab your bag and i'll drive you back," he said, his face suddenly turning serious which was rare for him.
I shook my head, "I'm not going back."It's not like he could make me. I was stronger and faster than him.
"Why not? Lissa is worried about you. Everyone is freaking out. Christan, Janine, Alberta and Dimitri have all been trying to find you..."
Ah, Dimitri...His name was like a knife to the gut. Why was he looking for me, he didn't care about me anymore. Love fades. Mine has. The words still stung...and i felt my face drop at the mention of his name.
"Rose...are you okay?" Adrian was by my side in seconds
I couldn't tell him why i had left. Adrian was my boyfriend now, not Dimitri. I couldn't tell him i was heartbroken over my ex who said his love for me had faded, "Yeah I'm fine...I-I just can't go back, OK."
I must have sounded pretty upset or maybe he just felt sorry for me "OK, i won't make you...but where are you going to go?" He questioned
"I have no idea," I smiled. Adrian looked at me with concern covering his face.
"At least let me come with you," He said while looking at me with a pleading look in his eyes "I hate not knowing where you are. It kills me."
"Adrian...you can't come with me. I need to be on my own for a while." I replied, looking away from him. I couldn't say no to him if i looked at his eyes, they looked so sad and desperate. I wanted so badly to take him with me but i was in the real world and i wouldn't be able to live with myself if he got hurt...or killed. There was no way i could take him with me without risking his life.
I heard him exhale slowly and by the look on his face i could tell he had just thought about the same thing that i had and i just hoped he understood that i couldn't endanger his life, and certainly not for selfish reasons.
"Fine Little dhampir, you win this time. Just expect to see me every night in your dreams." He smiled as he wrapped his arms around my waist.
Smiling i replied "I guess i'll see you then."
