I have been puzzled by the fact that Dick York, in Bewitched, seemed to be able to convey only one emotion most of the time. Just anger.
When the script called for sympathy, he was angry.
Script called for puzzlement, he showed anger.
Called for surprise, showed anger.
Called for anxiety showed anger.
Fear, showed anger.
Confusion, showed anger.
Amusement, showed anger.
I can go on but trust the point is made. This was a one dimension actor. The show was a success in spite of him not because of him. Still surprised he was hired for the job.
