Devil May Cry Question

Help! Stuck in game! Need help ASAP!

Hello everyone! I'm stuck on the first DmC game! I'm underground and I have to verse the Reaper with the giant scissors and I can't beat him cause he's too fast! All the good moves evolve around Devil Trigger, but I don't know how to get it. How do I get it?! Do I have to use Red Orbs to pay for it or what?
Please help! I'll be your best friend forever!

I think in this game you already have it and L1 is how you activate it.
