Yum. The girl is pretty, a member of the S1W so smart, opinionated and using her time to do some honourable stuff. She's an extension of the girl power theme. Plus I like her as a plot device giving us a reprieve from the Logan/Max angst. He's rich, decent looking, a nice guy, it wasn't natural for no one else to be interested in him. The guy deserves more female attention than just mooning over Max all the time, and Max was becoming annoying mooning over him the whole time. No one likes whiney, lost-love wimps. They both had bigger things to be concerned about, and it was losing a little of the girl power theme. Plus, I quite like that name.

Which is definitely good. The story will never really be finished, so I don't think that we'll ever be able to have clarity on Manticore.
