And in both hallucinations Damon and Elena's own minds are telling them something important about themselves that they haven't faced yet.

I was on Tumblr today I got to see the Jeremy-Damon 'badass' scene. It was short in my opinion but interesting just the same. I dunno if Elena's first 'real' sex as a vampire will be with Damon, but it SHOULD be. SE are going to break up soon - and the show doesn't have anything to gain creatively by giving them a big love scene. She basically said that if her and Damon's timing had been different she would be with him.
