Damon & Elena Question

Why Damon and Elena? (TV Show) (Please don't flame)

Now I like Delena in the books, I think they have mad chemistry and Nina and Ian also have mad chemistry as actors. But why do you want Elena with Damon so badly in the tv show? I've found that people seem to find Elena rather bland and flat and if that's the case then why would you want her with the most popular male character? I mean honestly I think Elena would be better off if she just had a non-supernatural love interest as she keeps whining about how much she wants to keep her loved ones safe and how she can't deal with vampires. If I'm quite honest, I'd like to see more of a reason as to why anyone would want to get with Elena.

Thanks for the replies but there was no need to be aggressive like I felt some of you were being at times. I am not your enemy. I am a neutral person with my own thoughts and opinions and no interest in getting into a shipping war. Okay? Okay,

uhh most DE shippers LOVE Elena. And I don't blame her for wanting to keep her family safe, it was the right and smart choice. She already dealt with so much crap ever since Stefan&Damon came into her life, but her aunt getting stabbed crossed the line for her and that's totally understandable.
I think Elena is a very strong, brave and independent character. Her not running back to Stefan right away shows that. Damon&Stefan love her so much because she doesn't treat them like everyone else. Especially Damon. He did some TERRIBLE things in season 1 and she somehow managed to look past them and be his friend. He knew he didn't deserve her friendship but she gave it to him anyway. And that's why he still loves her even though she said she's done with him forever; because she's an amazing person who brings out the best in him--his humanity.

How did you get the impression that Delena fans think Elena is a bland and boring character?
First of all: Elena is THE lead of this show. Yes, I ADORE the boys, Damon is my favorite (Elena VEEEERY close to him), but Elena is THE lead of the show, and the show is mostly about her, so if people think she is a whining annoying little brat, I really suggest they watch another show because this show will always focus on Elena the most, and if they keep watching a show in which they hate the lead, and THEY keep whining about her, it will stress out themselves and the whole fandom.

Secondly: Elena is a strong-willed, stubborn, fiery little thing. I LOVE her, and I respect her so much for her strong will and her passionate personality. She is not whiney when all she wants is for her family to be safe. Not HERSELF, but her family. It's not too much to ask. It's not whiney, it's admirable that a young girl like Elena risks her life for her family and friends. Since Stefan and Damon came in to her life, they brought danger with them. Elena never blamed them for any of it. She never WHINED about anything. She tried to find solutions to these problems WITH Stefan and Damon. And yes, she does have a good cry once in a while when things get too hard, but who doesnt? Elena is a human, normal girl that people should be able to relate to in some way or another, and her reactions to all the supernatural stuff is normal.

3: Most Damon/Elena fans LOVE Elena and think that she is a match for Damon; she's intelligent, she's passionate and deep down she's a fun loving girl. We saw all of that in her scenes with Damon, and mostly when she spends time alone with him. In their road trip to Georgia, she forgot how to be "sad, Elena who lost her parents" and was fresh, happy Elena. We understand Elena and all her facets, all her layers and I even understand why she loves Stefan right now. It's an important phase in her life. She loves him, but I dont believe he is THE one for her.

And lastly I wanted to say: Through my experience with the TVD fandom, as I am in some forums, on twitter, everywhere actually, I see that Stefan/Elena fans are the ones who genuinely HATE Elena. They hate her SO much, with a passion, that makes me wonder WHY they ship her with Stefan! I just dont understand them or their reasons. They can hate her if they want but ship her with Stefan then? It seems to that these people are only Stefan-fans who want him to have the lead-girl so he can be the "winner". Trust me, I've talked to a lot of them and they HATE her, even when she tries to help Stefan, they call her a bitch if she doesnt listen to him all the time, if she has a mind of her own. They want her to obey him all the time.

What WE love about Elena is that her world does not spin around some guy. She is about more than this. We love this girl because her character is strong even though she can have vulnerable moments, because not only humans have those moments, but also vampires.

If you didn't want to be flamed, then you shouldn't have baited us by hating on Elena in the group for Damon and ELENA fans. Maybe you stumbled on the wrong group. I know there's a good portion of SE and DB fans that hate Elena, but I love her. She's one of my favorites without a doubt.

If I had any thoughts about Elena being the perfect friend and the perfect girlfriend who never had a moment of weakness, then I wouldn't be watching this show. I'm about character progression in a story and a good journey. The expectations some other shipping groups throw upon her are so unreasonable it's scary...

I like her drive to be independent and strong. For someone who is physically weaker than most of the characters on the show, she's got a lot of fire and guts. She doesn't like to be smothered, kept in the dark, lied to, or treated like she's fragile and neither do I. I relate to her on that level and am inspired when she gets back up after a fall.

Her temporary break up with Stefan last weak wasn't her whining about being unable to handle it all. It was about her needing to feel in control of her life again. She keeps getting pushed and smothered like she's a glass doll by Stefan etc so she needs a moment to step back and find her place in everything so she can keep her confidence up.

Personally, I find her character fascinating on the TV show. She carries a lot of the traits I loved about her in the books but with 1000 times more depth. An ambitious girl who gets herself into trouble because she doesn't believe in limits. It's her strength and drive that always gets me.

She's a bit lost now, not knowing who she is. Her whole world has been flipped with her discovery of how much she's actually involved with everything when she thought she was on the outside looking in.

There's so many layers going on with her. She has a complex due to guilt from her parent's deaths about letting loose too much, but you can see glimmers of it still there underneath. I can't hold it against the girl for trying to suppress it when she feels, unreasonably, that a lot of things are her fault. She's running away from herself a bit, but that's the story, discovering that all this time she's been running scared when she doesn't have to be. Discovering that she can let go and fly.

I expect her to take more falls and have more emotional break downs. Her life isn't what she thought it was. She has a vampire doppelganger, a vampire mother, her uncle is her father, her boyfriend is a vampire, she's adopted, people keep dying around her etc etc.

(continued since FP cut me off)

Surely one is allowed to feel frustrated about that. All the other characters show frustrations with various supernatural things mucking up their lives as well. Not only that, but a large portion of the time she extends herself to holding the people around her up as well. How many times has she given Stefan his daily ego pep talk as though she even has time for that with the chaos that is her life! She lies to people and says "I'm fine" a lot rather than "whining" just to keep everyone happy around her. She tries. She has heart. When she makes a mistake or has neglected a loved one's feelings, she sees her error, and she tries to fix it. So why with Damon huh? For me, I can't imagine anyone else with him. In fact I couldn't bare it over the long haul. He's the one person that gets what's going on in her head perfectly. He knows exactly who she is hiding underneath her outer shell and she in turn knows what's underneath his layers as well. We've gotten hints along the way that they're more similar than it first seems. She used to be a partier and he used to be a hopeless romantic gentleman and when they're together they somehow bring out these lost feelings while still maintaining who they are now. I find it beautiful that they have one person that they can be real and vulnerable with in each other. It's moving and something I want for both of them as someone who LOVES both of them. They level each other off perfectly. They've seen each other at their worst and their best and can accept it all in spite of themselves. They're unspoken understanding and draw is just like the books for me. They get each other without trying. They can be honest with each other without worrying and thus they have a natural ease between them with a touch of fire there too. I love them for what they bring out in one another. I don't love Damon for his one liners and kill count. I love him for his layers and complexities. It's the same for Elena. I HATE shallow, static characters and things being laid out for me in black and white just like I hate abusive relationship where one person needs to physically hurt, smother, or lie endlessly to the other to make "moments" happen. Damon and Elena have everything I love in a ship. A strong connection, similarities underneath the surface, push and pull, a long journey, and a touch of unexplainable magic.

I actually like Elena. I don't think we can condemn her because she went straight into a relationship with Stefan as soon as she was introduced. The problem is she has never been given a chance to be a character of her own. Stefan has been given motivations outside of himself by way of Katherine and Damon (we see through flashbacks) but we don't know anything about Elena's parents, why she looks like Katherine, her relationship with Jon, her mother, etc. Everything that is associated with her immediately becomes wrapped up in the supernatural so it's not really about her.

I am looking for a breather period from Stefan where Elena gets a storyline of her own so she can stand out as a character of her own right. She deserves to get her power back and she can do that when she is fleshed out and her actions are motivated by her own storylines and not Stefan and Damon.

Why do I ship Damon and Elena? The chemistry is an important factor. I need to see it between the characters to believe in the passion, interplay and intensity of the story. I see this incredible chemistry between Damon/Elena that I cannot see with the other potential pairings. There is also the distinction between Katherine and Elena and what it has meant for Damon. He has finally separated Katherine from Elena and as a consequence she motivates so much of his humanity so she brings out these softer moments in him that no one else can. I think it was a genuine surprise to him that someone who is a physical replicate of a woman he spent 145 years loving could be such a radical opposite (loving, caring, good) and that will allow him to have his own closure. I also think Elena has this fire and spunk with Damon that I can't see with Stefan because she is too busy mooning at his lies to see much of the truth. When she gets into a relationship with Damon it will be after knowing the full consequences including who he is, what he is capable of, the good and the bad.

It will literally light up our screens because let's face it, TV is about entertainment and this couple has the potential to have it all: passion, angst, sexuality, tension, lust and drama. They wouldn't need props like Katherine to make them interesting, so Katherine being in love with Damon would never have to be an added plotline to their story as it was with Stefan/Elena. We would see build up from friendship, to tension, romance to love. I am intriqued.

Do You think Elena is Boring? I get the feeling you do. Id like to inform you that Delena fans love Elena. Or else we would just stay Team Damon.
I have heard Bamon fans mirror your exact words. Not Delena.

OK so Why do we love Elena. Elena is strong, confident, loving, Compassionate person. She gave Damon a chance when no other person would! Most all people would look at Damon as a murderous monster (Season 1) thats the Way stefan saw him. She gave Damon a chance when he really didnt do anything to deserve it. She showed him compassion the first time she said I know you lost Katherine too. Damon was surprized at this because He didnt think anyone would think of him above Stefan. Why would he Stefan has always held high praise while Damon is shown he is a dissapointment.

Again Elena shows the highest compassion for Damon. She understands that the murderous monster is not who he really is. He just wants someone to truely love and care about him. She associates with Damon even though HE killed Jeremy. Most people wouldnt have the heart she has. They would have shunned him forever. Wish him dead. or just leve and never come back. But does elena do these things. No because she knows that Damon is not a monster and She can't ever fool herself into believing it.

SO that is why Delena LOVE ELENA with DAMON.
THANK YOU!
