The name "Narnia" comes from the Italian town of Narni (Umbrian region). The latin name for the town is "Narnia." Being a classical scholar, C.S Lewis knew this and - quite possibly because Narni has such a long history - chose it to name "Narnia." To read a short item about Narni goto: link
