On Criminal Minds, what happened to Hotch's family? After watching tonights show 9/30/09 I am trying to figure out whats going on with Hotch. I quess I missed a show. Anyone out there can you help me?

In that episode, Hotch is freaking out because he got shot. The Reaper is who shot him and is who eventually, later in that season, killed Haley his wife.
