Honestly I pefered Genesis over Cloud. As annoying as Genesis was, a good smak over the head did him some good thanks to Zack.

Cloud is useless.... Genesis is useless...... but I will never vote for Cloud...... Cloud is the most pathetic character in Final Fantasy. He can't even live his own life..... Genesis just needs to go to an insane asylum. and Sephiroth just needs a hug, and so does Vincent. Zack needed a vacation. Aerith just needs to die, oh wait she did XP.

Cloud is strong because of S cells (he have the last pure S cells), while genesis is only a one winged angel with a sword (i think it is a ancient sword)

Just like with Zack, we can only really compare using Sephiroth and Cloud does better, WAAAAY better then Genesis against Sephiroth.
