Alice (Alice in Wonderland)
Alice is portrayed as being very curious. She's often seen daydreaming and gives herself advice instead of listening to the advice of others. The closest thing Alice has as a friend is Dinah, her cat, and not even she understands Alice's dreams of finding "a world of her own". Alice is well mannered, polite, courteous, mature and has an elegance and gentleness of a young woman, although once she falls into Wonderland she finds it harder and harder to maintain her composure. She is shown to be determined, but her determination is often overpowered by her temper, seeing as she doesn't give up on finding the White Rabbit until she gets frustrated, and is easily put off by rudeness.
Words to describe Alice: imaginative, dreamer, curious, polite, adventurous, bored, feisty, determined.

Amelia (Treasure Planet)
The feline first lady of the RLS Legacy is one of the strongest heroines ever seen on the silver screen. She's tough, no-nonsense, and has a vocabulary that dazzles the imagination. Her design is sleek and precise, and her British tones bequeath her character with a sterling presentation.
Words to describe Amelia: exemplary, tough, no-nonsense, witty, intelligent, precise, maternal, complex.

Ariel (The Little Mermaid)
The tawny-haired mermaid is a girl in the process of becoming an attractive woman. One of her attractive qualities is that she is very definite about what she is doing and very confident about her own ability to succeed. Of course, a good deal of that confidence is ill-placed, as she is just a teenager. Although she is warned by her father, King Triton, that humans are dangerous, Ariel stubbornly believes otherwise and has an insatiable curiosity about them. She explores human artifacts (sunken ships, etc.) and is constantly going into forbidden territory: the surface. This, of course, leads her to love ... and trouble.
Words to describe Ariel: mischievous, curious, child-like, independent, confident, exploratory, imaginative, adventurous, defiant.

Audrey (Atlantis: The Lost Empire)
Audrey is a teenage female Puerto Rican mechanic, and the youngest member of the expedition. She is a bit of a tomboy, but her tough attitude hides a caring, sweet personality.
Words to describe Audrey: tough, adventurous, tomboy, mechanical, kind, funny, sarcastic.

Aurora (Sleeping Beauty)
Betrothed at birth to Prince Phillip, the infant Aurora is blessed with the gifts of beauty and song by the good fairies of the kingdom. However, fate's icy hand brings an uninvited guest to the christening and the evil fairy Maleficent curses the child to die by the prick of a spinning wheel's spindle before her 16th birthday. Struggling to prevent this catastrophe, the good fairies hide the princess in a secluded cottage in the glen. The years pass and Aurora blossoms into a lovely but lonely young woman unaware of her real name and birth right.
Words to describe Aurora: innocent, lonely, charming, sweet, romantic, shy, musical, imaginative.

Belle (Beauty and the Beast)
Belle is a young woman living in the French countryside with her father, an inventor. She's a lovely free-thinker who likes to read and go on adventures within her own imagination. She is not shy about and is not afraid to speak her mind, especially in tight situations. She is very compassionate and takes care of those in need. Belle can also be stubborn, but she tries to protect people she truly loves and is very patient towards others. Belle is a shrewd nonconformist for her time in many ways. The most pronounced is her love of books, adventure and knowledge, which the townspeople find odd for a woman. Gaston says to her at one point, "It's not right for a woman to read. Soon she starts getting ideas and...thinking...". Belle also does not care about appearances, whether they pertain to herself or anyone else. This is highly ironic, considering she is seen as the most beautiful woman in her village.
Words to describe Belle: imaginative, creative, kind, giving, stubborn, adventurous, intelligent, quirky, different, curious.

Charlotte (The Princess and the Frog)
Ever since early childhood, Charlotte has gotten everything she wanted, and gained a very spoiled personality from it, but though she is self-centered, the lovely debutant is be no means selfish. She has always dreamed of marrying a prince and living a storybook life; because of this Charlotte would dress in princess clothing, made for her by Eudora, the finest seamstress in New Orleans, who also happens to be the mother of her childhood friend, Tiana. She's a slightly ditzy, implusive diva filled with spunk and flare. She shows no ill will to Tiana even though Prince Naveen wanted to wed Tiana rather than her, and kisses a frog for her even though she won't get to marry Naveen, thinking she is the princess who must kiss the frog to break the spell. It doesn't work anyway, but they didn't know that at the time.
Words to describe Charlotte: kind, spoiled, spunky, feminine, dreamer, diva, impulsive, romantic, bubbly, self-centered yet unselfish.

Cinderella (Cinderella)
Cinderella is initially made a servant in her home and is constantly derided by her evil stepmother Lady Tremaine and two stepsisters. Although she is abused and humiliated, she maintains hope through her dreams. She is faithful to the idea that someday her wishes of happiness will come true. When her evil stepsisters and stepmother prevent her from going to the ball, she is heartbroken and alone. However, her fairy godmother appears and restores hope. Cinderella is strong-willed and determined; when the invitation to the royal ball arrives, she does everything she can to persuade her stepmother that she has every right to attend. She is presented in the film as a sympathetic heroine; well-meaning, hard-working, and positive. In Cinderella III: A Twist in Time, her determination is put to the test as she goes through all odds to prove to her Prince that she's his true love. In this film she's seen in a very powering role and finally learns that if you want a dream to come true, you have to help make it come true.
Words to describe Cinderella: hard-working, well-meaning, fun-loving, humble, kind, friendly, positive, sweet, feminine, imaginative, dreamer.

Eilowny (The Black Cauldron)
Like the women in her family, she is a formidable enchantress. She has inherited this characteristic, most readily visible in her manipulation of a magical item she calls her bauble, a small golden sphere that can glow with magical light when activated by her willpower. As a member of the Royal House of Llyr, Eilonwy wears a pendant depicting a silver crescent moon, the family emblem. Far from being just another stereotypical damsel-in-distress princess, who needs the hero to save her, she is hot-tempered, stubborn and resolute. Although having been trained as a sorceress and not a warrior, she is quite capable of using various weapons, particularly the sword, bow and spear. Even when unarmed, she will fight like a wildcat (i.e. scratching, biting, and kicking) until incapacitated. She is also sharp, snippy, strong-willed, and sarcastic. She often gets angry with Taran, usually for reasons he does not understand, though in secret she does care for him. However, while she is more sure about her growing feelings towards him than he is about his for her, she is content to wait until he confesses to her, which he does in the end.
Words to describe Eilonwy: sarcastic, snippy, secure, adventurous, friendly, strong, resolute, tough, magical, sensitive.

Esmeralda (The Hunchback of Notre Dame)
Esmeralda lives the life of a Gypsy. When she dances, the coins of many admirers fall at her feet and the hearts of men are filled with desire. Then one day she dances into danger, and only the walls of Notre Dame can save her from certain death. Esmeralda is a bit different from the past heroines. She's a little bit physically stronger and tougher. And yet, because she herself is an outcast and has been discriminated against, she has the capacity to sympathize and relate to Quasimodo as no one ever has before. Esmeralda and her pet goat, Djali, live by their wits on the streets of Paris.
Words to describe Esmeralda: mysterious, independent, free, fearless, sympathetic, sensual, outcast, different.

Giselle (Enchanted)
When the film begins, Princess Giselle is an innocent, romantic young woman, living in the land of the Kingdom, Andalasia. She converses with animals regularly who also assist her in making dresses from "unusual" materials. Later, when she crosses over into New York, she is shown to be quite naive. She matures over the course of the film and develops more of an understanding of the concept of love. Despite her naive qualities, Giselle is extremely brave and resourceful as shown by her narrowly escaping a troll at the start of the film and standing up to the evil queen Narissa at the film's climax.
Words to describe Giselle: naive, feminine, resourceful, giddy, flighty, romantic, innocent, brave, silly.

Jane Porter (Tarzan)
The artistic, if slightly naive heroine of Tarzan may look like the typical Disney girl, but her personality is all her own. She's not as strong or street-smart, and needs looking after, but she proves she can handle the expedition in the jungle. Like Belle, she is an adventurous and intelligent brunette with a close relationship to her father, but how they differ is clear. Jane is a more introverted, shy, and demure girl who sometimes makes judgements on appearances. This all fades throughout the film, but Jane has a quirky personality all her own.
Words to describe Jane: complex, quick, intelligent, geeky, adventurous, witty, simple, amused, scientific, artistic, precise.

Jasmine (Aladdin)
Jasmine, daughter of the Sultan, is only a few days short of her 16th birthday; the day on which, by law, she must choose a husband. However, she wants to marry for love, so -- to her father's great dismay -- she keeps turning away her high-born suitors. She is not a prize to be won, that is for sure. She then decides to flee the luxuries of the palace for the wild adventure of the marketplace ... where she happens to fall into the company of a young street thief, Aladdin. Headstrong and impetuous, she makes a perfect match for Aladdin, although a street thief is hardly prince material.
Words to describe Jasmine: headstrong, fiery, impetuous, passionate, curious, independent, romantic, trapped, outspoken.

Jessica Rabbit (Who Framed Roger Rabbit?)
Jessica Rabbit is Roger's wife. She is re-imagined in the film as a sultry, but moral, cartoon singer at a Los Angeles supper club called The Ink and Paint Club. She is one of several suspects in the framing of her husband, who is a famous cartoon star, but she loves him with all of her heart.
Words to describe Jessica: sultry, sexy, sensual, feminine, kind, famous, musical.

Kidagakash (Atlantis: The Lost Empire)
Princess Kidagakash is the sole heir to the Atlantean throne. Her father is King Kashekim Nedakh. Kidagakash was still alive when Atlantis sank, as Milo points out this would make her over 8,000 years old. Kida was only a child when Atlantis sank, and all she remembers from it was a bright light and it calling her mother away. Kida never saw her mother after that. Kida is a fierce, friendly, and curious young woman who helps Milo when he arrives.
Words to describe Kida: cultured, intelligent, feisty, tough, fierce, nostalgic, spiritual, dutiful, caring.

Lilo Pelekai (Lilo and Stitch)
Lilo has a spirited and highly eccentric personality, especially in light of her parents' death. She has alienated herself from her fellow children, yet Lilo makes the perfect best friend for Stitch, an alien experiment whom she adopts as her dog. Lilo attends Hula school and her hobbies include the photography of obese people, talking about creatures from horror/sci-fi movies, and capturing and rehabilitating Jumba's evil genetic experiments, and she idolizes Elvis Presley.
Words to describe Lilo: eccentric, feisty, child-like, caring, trouble-making, emotional, creative.

Megara (Hercules)
A heroine with an attitude, Megara is always quick with a wisecrack. Although she begins her career as an assistant to Hades, she quickly falls for the hunky Hercules and refuses to sell him out to her evil boss. To save her new love, Megara must undo the deception she started, and gives her life to help Hercules.
Words to describe Megara: resourceful, tough, witty, sarcastic, funny, secretly romantic, internally wounded.

Mulan (Mulan)
Mulan doesn't seem to fit in in her world. Everything a proper young Chinese girl is supposed to be -- graceful, demure, quiet -- she is not. But when her homeland and family are threatened by an invasion of bloodthirsty Huns, Mulan runs away to join the army in her father's place. There she learns that her courage, intelligence, and determination offer her a way to bring honor to her family and herself.
Words to describe Mulan: heroic, loyal, brave, independent, outcast, clumsy, caring, strong.

Nani Pelekai (Lilo and Stitch)
Nani is Lilo Pelekai's older sister and legal guardian. She carries the burden of supporting herself and her younger sister both financially and parentally. Naturally, she is usually very busy and under a great deal of stress. She loves Lilo devotedly, but doesn't always understand her. Nani often serves as a gentle voice of reason and advice in the films, and occasionally, not so gentle. It was Nani, in the original film, who allowed Lilo to adopt Stitch from the pound, where he had been mistaken for a dog. As a result of her stress, Nani is easily aggravated by Lilo and Stitch's antics, which often unfortunately interfere with her ability to find and hold a stable job. Her busy life sometimes makes it difficult for her to maintain a normal relationship with David Kawena, a local surfer, who is Nani's friend in the original film and later love interest. She is renowned among her household for her bad cooking. Her worst fear is noted to be losing Lilo to social workers like Cobra Bubbles, whom she at first disliked but, after the events of the first film, comes to trust and respect.
Words to describe Nani: responsible, stressed, dutiful, caring, irritable, giving, hard-working.

Penny (The Rescuers)
Penny is a lonely orphan girl, residing at Morningside Orphanage in New York City. She is kidnapped by Medusa in an attempt to retrieve the world's largest diamond, the Devil's Eye. She is one of the main protagonists in the film and serves as the representation that anyone's dreams can come true if one has enough faith. She is regarded as one of Disney's bravest characters.
Words to describe Penny: sweet, adorable, brave, lonely, orphaned, insecure, imaginative, hopeful.

Pocahontas (Pocahontas)
Pocahontas' name itself means "Little Mischief." She is based on the real historical figure, and was born into a highly sophisticated Native American culture that had some knowledge of Europeans. Pocahontas is displayed as a noble, free-spirited and highly spiritual young woman. She expresses wisdom beyond her years and offers kindness and guidance to those around her. She loves adventure and nature. In the film, she appears to have shamanic powers since she was able to commune with nature, talk to spirits, empathize with animals, and understand unknown languages. In the sequel, Pocahontas seems to have grown after thinking that John Smith had died. She keeps her independent spirit and playfulness, but is much more mature and self assured than she was in the first film. During her stay in England, she nearly loses herself in the hustle and bustle of this new world and is turned into someone she's not. But in the end she bravely intends to sacrifice herself for her people's safety and returns to her homeland, finding herself, and love, once again.
Words to describe Pocahontas: free, spiritual, extroverted, a "show-off", naturalist, caring, independent.

Rapunzel (Tangled)
Rapunzel is not a typical noble Disney Princess. Having been locked away in a tower her entire life, with her hairdo of over 70 feet in length, which has magical healing powers and and is used as a weapon, she still loves her overprotective mother who has devoted herself to her. Rapunzel enjoys life in the tower, spending large portions of her days expressing herself creatively by painting the walls which line the tower. Because of this creativity and curiosity, she is beginning to question what else is out there, and has a hunch that there is something more inside of her.
Words to describe Rapunzel: curious, artistic, beautiful, feisty, sarcastic, sheltered, creative, sweet, dreamer, hopeful.

Sally (The Nightmare Before Christmas)
Sally is one of Dr. Finkelstein's creations. She's pretty unstable when it comes to physical movement, but she is very kind person, and compassionate. She cares a lot for Jack and always tries to correct his mistakes, hiding her true feelings about him. Though her Master keeps her something like a prisoner, she always finds a way out of his lab, usually by "poisoning" his soup, using Deadly Nightshade. When Halloween on Christmas turns black, Sally's there to stop Jack from doing something that might hurt him.
Words to describe Sally: compassionate, giving, creative, adventurous, curious, sweet, emotional, intelligent, wise.

Snow White (Snow White and the Seven Dwarves)
A princess of noble birth, Snow White is forced into rags as a scullery maid by her jealous stepmother, the Queen. Blessed with an innocent's indomitable spirit, the fair maiden never loses faith that one day the wishing well will grant her wish for a true love to come and take her away. Though sometimes portrayed as a "perfect" and "vanilla" character, Snow White actually shows throughout the film attitude and humor when making the dwarves wash up.
Words to describe Snow White: naive, innocent, dreamer, sweet, romantic, ethereal, graceful, tidy, proper, friendly.

Tiana (The Princess and the Frog)
Tiana is a 19-year old waitress and talented chef who dreams of owning her own restaurant like her father dreamed of doing. She is the Princess of Determination. She is a "diamond in the rough" who will have to learn some lessons before she reaches true princess status. Director John Musker stated that Tiana will be one of the "strongest" Disney heroines yet. She is a motivated, determined, and independent young woman. She wants to do things her way, without help from anyone. Anika Noni Rose, the voice of Tiana says: "She’s a strong woman who doesn’t need anyone to do things for her...She wants to do things for herself." She must learn that balance is important in life; to be happy, she needs both love and a career.
Words to describe Tiana: determined, hard-working, creative, independent, strong, self-sufficient, kind, uncoordinated, motivated, beautiful, intelligent.

Tiger Lily (Peter Pan)
In the movie, Tiger Lily is the daughter of the Indian Chief and a loyal friend of Peter Pan. Her friendship with Peter Pan leads Captain Hook believe that Tiger Lily knows where Peter Pan's hideout. With the assistance of Mr. Smee, Captain Hook captures Tiger Lily and takes her to Skull Rock. The Indians believe that she was captured by the Lost Boys, and so do not come for her. Captain Hook places the bound Tiger Lily on a rock sticking out of the sea. He offers to set her free if she reveals the home of Peter Pan. He points out the rising tide, noting that Indian belief says that an Indian who dies by drowning cannot make it to the Happy Hunting Grounds. However, Tiger Lily refuses to talk.
Words to describe Tiger Lily: feisty, strong, quiet, flirtatious, mysterious.

Tinker Bell (Peter Pan)
Tinker Bell is the jealous pixie who glows brightest for Peter Pan. Her voice sings like a tinkling bell and a sprinkle of her pixie dust can make you fly. But this sprite can turn spiteful if she suspects that Peter's attentions are diverted to anyone but herself.
Words to describe Tinker Bell: pouty, jealous, loyal, good-hearted, devious, insecure, bitchy, rebellious.

Wendy (Peter Pan)
The eldest child of the Darling family, who is sweet and polite usually, but she can show strength and steel when threatened. She will fight for her dreams and fight against growing up. Ah, the question that everyone who has stumbled upon this spot has surely asked themselves. It's been asked in poll form multiple times. There have been many discussions on the subject.

The spot motto defines a Disney Classic as "anything before the Pixar era", making the cutoff 1996, when Toy Story premiered.

Most of the picks/polls about the subject have Pocahontas (1995) or Tarzan (1998) in the lead.

Some fans believe that only the films on the official list of Disney Animated Classics are true classics.

Truth is, there is no definite answer, because a Disney Classic means something different...
