If you want to wish "Merry Christmas" to someone in Greece, then you should say: Kala Hristouyienna.

If you want to wish "Happy New Year " to someone in Greece, then you should say: Kali Hronia.

For "Happy New Year Day" in Greek you should say "Kali Protohronia".

If your friend is called Manolis or Hristos, his nameday is on December 25 (Christmas day). Wish him "Hronia Polla" (Many Happy Returns) for his nameday.

The same applies if your friend is called Vassilis, Yiannis or Fotis. Vassilis nameday is on January 1, Fotis' nameday is on January 6, Yiannis' nameday is on January 7.

During Christmas holiday period, which lasts from December 24 until January 6, plus a couple of weeks past that, it is a custom in Greece to wish "Hronia Polla" to the people you meet. So, if you meet someone in the morning, the proper way to greet him or her is: Kalimera, Hronia Polla! (Good morning, Many Happy Returns).

O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree!
How are thy leaves so verdant!
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
How are thy leaves so verdant!

Not only in the summertime,
But even in winter is thy prime.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
How are thy leaves so verdant!

O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Much pleasure doth thou bring me!
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Much pleasure doth thou bring me!

For every year the Christmas tree,
Brings to us all both joy and glee.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Much pleasure doth thou bring me!

O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Thy candles shine out brightly!
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Thy candles shine out brightly!

Each bough doth hold its tiny light,
That makes each toy to sparkle bright.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Thy candles shine out brightly!
In 1984, a group of well-intentioned musicians got together to form the charity group Band Aid to raise money for famine in Ethiopia with their release of the super popular song, "Do They Know It's Christmas?" On the surface, to hear someone claim to "hate" such a song makes that person seem like a complete and total Grinch. How could you hate a song that raised money for famine victims, or brought awareness to the plight in Ethiopia? Right?

So allow me to explain my frustration with the song. Most people love the song, for its warm message and altrusitic intentions. I myself even link on a...

Here is my Top 5 Worst Television Christmas Specials List:

*5. The Simpsons in Miracle On Evergreen Terence (1997), Because it is very mean-spirited, the ending is a downer, and the title is very misleading.
*4. Futurama in The Futurama Holiday Spectacular (2010), Because it is more like a Halloween Episode than a Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa episode.
*3. Family Guy in Christmas Guy (2013), Because Peter Griffin and Carter Pewdeschmidt are very unlikeable jerks in this Christmas Special.
*2. Dexter’s Laboratory in Dexter Vs Santa Claws (1998)
*1. Teen Titans Go! in The True Meaning Of Christmas (2015)

Dishonourable Mentions:

Okay, first of all, this isn't what u might think. And you might've played it before.I'm gonna get to the point.
Dirty Christmas is a game you and your family can play on Christmas.Everyone brings a mystery gift(it can be funny or normal). You draw numbers out of a bowl, cup,or hat, something like that. The person with the lowest number goes first.TRhey pick a present, and unwrap it.That is what they keep.BUT,someone with a higher number can steal it,then the person it was stolen from gets another present.Youkeep going until everyone has a present.
My family plays it in different groups;Adults, teens, and little kids.Above is the way the teens and adults play.
The kids play in a different way. They get in a circle, and go around grabbing presents until they are all gone.No one can steal anything.
It's a really fun game, and I say you and your family should try it.

Christmas is Coming!
Christmas is Coming!
Hi guys, I would like to write some of my favourite Christmas Activities here as I am feeling the Christmas blue already!

1) Carolling

I absolutely love to sing, despite that I'm a very shy person, I love to do it for the charity and pleasure of cheering people up!

2) Shopping

I had always love this, and 2 years ago I bought a t-shirt from Esprit for my Piano teacher and for myself. I'm very blessed to have it as of today!

3) Church Christmas Services

To be honest, I have an annoying habit to wake up late lately to go to Church and I hope that I do not have to do it especially on Christmas day. Please pray for me! I love to see all of my new friends.

4) Christmas Lights

I love taking photos with my Nikon DSLR Camera, and I would go down to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to snap photos of Christmas lights of I'm lucky enough!

Believe!

Do you believe in Christmas? Well, I do!
Oh Night Divine!!!
Oh Night Divine!!!
Shopping, who's with me?

I love Christmas, it is one of my favorite holidays ever. Even though it was more exciting when I was a child or even a teenager. But I grew up and my sister who is 7 years younger than me, she's 25, I don't see her as much, even on holidays as she lives with her boyfriend of a year. Plus her job as a VJ at our local radio station takes up a lot of her time. Then there is the fact that my nana on my mom's side always put on the best Christmases, Christmas was also her favorite holiday, but sadly she passed away 4 years ago, then with my Aunt and Uncle going to either New York to have Christmas...

Quite a pleasant tune to listen to.
Quite a pleasant tune to listen to.
Since I had done with my favourite Christmas films, now it's the famous Oratorios composed by famous classical composers.

1) The Messiah by George Frederick Handel

This oratorio premiered in Dublin, Ireland and it's the first oratorio to be performed in English. Which was unusual at that time.

2) Alexander's Feast by George Frederick Handel

Although this oratorio is link to Alexander the Great, it's music sounds very Christmas oriented and it is highly recommend for both Christmas and Handel fans alike!

3) St. John's Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach

It's dramatic music will not only celebrate...

Santa Claus, also known as Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas and simply "Santa", is a figure with legendary, mythical, historical and folkloric origins who, in many western cultures, is said to bring gifts to the homes of the good children during the late evening and overnight hours of Christmas Eve, December 24. The modern figure was derived from the Dutch figure of Sinterklaas, which, in turn, may have part of its basis in hagiographical tales concerning the historical figure of gift giver Saint Nicholas. A nearly identical story is attributed by Greek and Byzantine folklore to Basil of Caesarea....

What is Christmas all about?

If a link is to be believed, most of us Fanpop users live in cities or their suburbs. For those of us who do, I issue another challenge, but this time it's not designing your own game or writing poetry. This is a Christmas challenge, so it follows in the spirit of the holiday. We can all get caught up in the glamour of the holiday (in both meanings of the word), but regardless of your belief in the divinity of Jesus, the holiday is to commemorate his birth, and since most of the history we have of him is about his caring for the disenfranchised, poor and sick, I...
