Ahh Christmas. The tree, the stockings, the mistletoe and - of course - the holiday television programming.

Some of my fondest Christmas memories were spent in front a of television watching such classics as the animated Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer or one of the myriad versions of Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol'.

So without further ado, I am presenting you with my big, big list of holiday specials. I've tried to categorize the list into subsections to make it a little more bearable and consumable. The...

Back when I was a kid watching Christmas specials on TV, Mrs. Claus was invariably portrayed as a sweet but dowdy older woman of slightly plump stature. She could cook a mean pie and reminded you of your Grandma. Of course, we loved her and so did Santa.

But did you ever wonder what Mrs. Claus might have looked like when she was younger? I mean, I assume she must've be smokin' (natch).

So why is it that so many of the classic holiday programs show us a Santa Claus surrounded by androgynous little elves and a matronly Mrs. Claus? I mean, it's cold up at the North Pole. Surely Santa isn't adverse...

Since we're all still in Christmas mood, here is my comparison for both the 1966 animated short with its live action film made in 2000.

1966 Animated Short

This animated short that started it all! I love the vibrant and how colourful this animated cartoon, it's whimsical animation style will make you love this cartoon and Dr. Seuss, his artwork fascinates people even in today's generation, the theme song 'You're Mean One, Mr. Grinch!' has even been covered in the TV series, 'Glee' that I could not get it out of my head after listening to it recently.

Carols of the Bell.
Carols of the Bell.
Hi guys, have you ever sung carols at a famous cathedrals or churches at your native countries? Here are the perfect holy sites to sing.

1. Westminster Abbey (London, England)

The abbey was site of the 2011 Royal Wedding, I love the atmosphere and the church. It gives you all a feel of Christmas, don't you think?

2. Cologne Cathedral (Cologne, Germany)

This is the first cathedral outside of the UK, and for the same reasons as Westminster Abbey.

In 1984, a group of well-intentioned musicians got together to form the charity group Band Aid to raise money for famine in Ethiopia with their release of the super popular song, "Do They Know It's Christmas?" On the surface, to hear someone claim to "hate" such a song makes that person seem like a complete and total Grinch. How could you hate a song that raised money for famine victims, or brought awareness to the plight in Ethiopia? Right?

So allow me to explain my frustration with the song. Most people love the song, for its warm message and altrusitic intentions. I myself even link on a...

This is a reprint of a classic article that ran in the now defunct Spy Magazine about 15 years ago or so. This article is all over the internets now, though few sites properly attribute the original source. In any event, here's the reprinted text to this holiday classic.

Consider the following:

1) No known species of reindeer can fly. But there are 300,000 species of living organisms yet to be classified, and while most of these are insects and germs, this does not COMPLETELY rule out flying reindeer which only Santa has ever seen.

2) There are 2 billion children (persons under 18) in the world....

In Germany, today is the First Advent – meaning the first of the for Sundays before Christmas. It is often the last Sunday in November, but this year, it happens to be exactly on December first. Advent is here the time we spend in preparation for the Christmas celebrating, lighting one candle every Sunday.

The sixth of December is a very special day, Nicholas day. The prior evening, everyone in the house is cleaning their largest pair of shoes and putting it in front of the fireplace (or another special place). The next morning, the shoes are filled with sweets – if the children have been...

If you're looking for a festive look that doesn't scream "CHRISTMAS!", try out a sparkly sequinned dress! It's a popular look with all kinds of celebs.

Taylor Swift, Jordin Sparks, Beyonce, Hilary Duff, Katy Perry, and Kristen Stewart have all shone in shiny dresses. It's a great look to wear to any holiday event you might have coming up (a party, a school dance, a girls' night, etc. etc.)

Here are some options we found from Delia's. This one is a light grey dress with a smattering of sparkles and a flouncy skirt. The second one only has sparkles on the top and a cute bow at the waist. And the third option is an all-over sequins look!

If you don't feel comfortable wearing full-on sparkles, try accessorizing with something like glittery tights, a sparkly ring, or shiny metallic nail polish.

Do you like this trendy look?
Not a fan of your traditional Christmas music? Here's a list of hard Christmas songs from all over the metal spectrum! If you have any more suggestions feel free to drop them in the comments.

• The first commercial Christmas cards were commissioned in London, in 1843, by Sir Henry Cole, with illustration by John Callcott Horsley. President Dwight D. Eisenhower issued the first official White House card in 1953.

• "Rudolph" was actually created by Robert May for Montgomery Ward in the late 1930's as a holiday promotion. The song was written later by Johnny Marks, and recorded by Gene Autry in 1949; it promptly sold about 2 million copies.

• Christmas became an official national holiday in the USA on June 28, 1870.

• Poinsettias are the most popular Christmas plant and are...

Mistletoe, in older times, was believed to have protective properties and was hung to ward off evil spirits. Celts believed that mistletoe, a parasitic plant that grows on trees, had special powers that could heal diseases, make poisons harmless, protect against evil spells and bring fertility to childless women. For many years, Christian places of worship did not allow it inside because of its pagan associations. But nowadays it is mostly used as an excuse to steal a kiss.

The origin of our tradition of kissing under the mistletoe is lost in the mists of antiquity. Some say it probably stemmed...

In Greece when we talk about the "holidays" we are referring to the holiday period of Christmas, New Year and Epiphany.
Traditionallythe Christmas holiday period lasts 12 days in Greece. There are many customs associated with the "twelve day of Christmas," some very old and others relatively recent, like the decorated tree and the turkey on the Christmas-day table.
Historically,in 354 A.D. it was arranged for the birth of Christ to be celebrated on December 25, the same day that they celebrated the birth of the ancient god Mithra, known as the "invincible sun god" and god of all solar deities...

'Tis the season to be jolly!
I have had to remind myself of this fact constantly in the past week for I have had probably the most stressful week of 2008. All I wanted was to be in readiness and organized for my favourite time of year but things do not always go as planned.
I decide to do some home renovations and paint my house back in September, the house did not really need a revamping but I was bored and thought it was time for a change. Little did I imagine that only a few days before Christmas the house would still be looking like a hurricane had swept through it.
I decided to get rid of...

I wrote this short song, based upon "Santa Claus is Coming to Town". It has been effectively retitled "Santa Claus is bringing you down".
You're going to shout
You're going to cry
You're going to pout, and I'm telling you why
Sant Claus is bringing you down!
He knows when you are knocked out
He knows when you're in pain
He knows when to punch or not
And his wallops will drive you insane, woah!
Sant Claus is bring you down!
Yeah, Santa Claus is bring you down!
Yeah, Santa Claus is bringing YOU DOWN!

I wrote this other, slightly longer song, based upon "Frosty the Snowman" and effectively retitled "Frosty...

Santa Kitty,
I’ve really been an awfully good cat,
And that
Is not an easy thing for me,
Santa Kitty,
So scurry down the chimney tonight.

Santa Kitty,
A ten-pound bag of cat food, too,
From you.
I’ve been an angel all year,
Santa Kitty,
So scurry down the chimney tonight.

Think of all
The food I’ve missed.
Think of all the items on
My people’s grocery list.
They really have been
Mean to me.
It takes a lot of food
To feed a cat like me!

Santa Kitty,
Slip a milk bowl under the tree
For me.
I’ll stay up for you, dear
Santa Kitty,
So scurry down the chimney tonight.

Santa Kitty,
I need something to chase ’round...
