Okay, here's a bit of back-story. My mom and I have been seeing a couple of Jehovah's Witness ladies over the past few months. Both of us have gone to some of their Kingdom Hall meetings, and we've talked and "studied" the Bible together (I use the term "study" very loosely there, 'cause the way they reason through scripture is full of logical fallacies and holes and grr, it's frustrating!), and I like to think that by now we've become good friends. These ladies are very sweet, sincere people and it's been a joy for me to get to know them.
(I'm thinking of writing an article about my experiences at their Kingdom Hall and whatnot. Would anyone be interested in reading about it?)
Anyway, suffice it to say these JW ladies have been my muse, recently; and I guess I've been channeling my feelings on their beliefs into my songwriting. I just finished this one, and I wrote it especially for them. JWs (in general; there are always exceptions) are notorious for believing the whole world is evil and out to get them, that "apostate Christians" hate them, that they shouldn't mingle with non-JWs except to preach, etc. It's hard for them to separate the beliefs from the person. Which isn't surprising. That's a trademark of many cults out there.
I'm not sure if that's how our ladies feel (I hope not!), but whether that's the case or not, I wrote this to tell them that I care about them, and that God cares for them too, and nobody's beliefs - theirs or mine - will get in the way of that for me. At the very least, I hope this song lives up to my screen-name. =)
Feel free to give feedback or share your own experiences with this kind of stuff! I love hearing people's stories.

I Treasure You
1. We stand on common ground
Jehovah's precious Word
And both of us are striving
To bring light to a broken world
But your Jesus is not my Jesus
Your God is not my God
Our viewpoints are so different, and yet
We're both certain the Truth's what we've got
It's painfully easy
An us-vs-them mentality
But right now, all I care about
Is the friendship that I see
(Chorus)
So I'm gonna love you, as Christ loves me
I'm gonna respect you, when we disagree
I'm gonna listen and learn from you
And maybe you'll learn something from me, too
You've been a blessing in my life
And I pray you know that's true
'Cause I, I treasure you
I treasure you
2. I think you've been sold short
It's heartbreaking for me to see
(Oh, can't you see)
God can be so much bigger and closer
His grace and salvation is free
But then, you most likely believe
That I am the one who's been blind
(I understand)
We care too much to hold back what we know
And risk leaving the other behind
It's tricky business
Trying to be a witness
But right now, I just wanna try
To bless you as I've been blessed
(Chorus)
(Bridge)
Truth is absolute (and constant)
Someone's gotta be wrong
Someone's gotta be right
But Love is the greatest (of all of these)
So though I think you're wrong
I'll treat you right
At the end of it all, only God knows
But until then
I will pray for you, talk and laugh with you
Be a friend
(We're all human)
(Chorus)
You're a blessing; I love you
And Jesus loves you, too
He treasures you (oh, it's true)
He treasures you
And I, I treasure you
I treasure you
