Chandler Riggs Explains Why Carl Isn't in New Walking Dead Season 5 Trailer

Never fear, Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) fans, the absence of Young Master G from The Walking Dead Season 5’s new “Surviving Together” trailer was not some kind of dark hint from AMC about his fate in the second half. It turns out there’s a more real-world reason for his absence — scheduling conflicts!

A clearly concerned fan asked Chandler on ask.fm, "WHY ISNT CARL IN THW TRAILOR THIS IS AN IMPORTANT MATTER." Chandler explained what happened: "well i had bought tickets to go to boston to see [girlfriend] hana and they had scheduled the shooting of that to not be on those days, but norman had a convention on the day that the trailer was going to be shot, and i guess they wanted norman more than me so they switched the days and told me about it like 3 days before they shot it."

Dang, Carl got stiffed. Then again, it has to be a tough job to work around all of the actors\'s various schedules. And as much as it sucks for Chandler/Carl to not be in the promo, it sounds like it was a relatively last-minute change, and it probably was a good call to ensure Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon) was involved or the Internet would explode with "WHERE\'S DARYL?!" panic. And Chandler got to do the more important thing, which is hang out with his girlfriend. It has to feel good on her end to know she won over TWD, even if that was not the initial intention.

Carl deserves better, though. Chandler does too, but the character of Carl Grimes is a main (if not THE) main character in the comic books and sometimes the TV show pushes him into the background — or, in this case, just leaves him out entirely.

Are you glad to hear there was a valid reason for why Carl was not featured in the new trailer? We can still imagine that he was on baby Judith guarding duty while Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and company were slaying whatever unseen foes were attacking in that otherworldly mist.
