I don't see anything extremely wrong with her protecting of own family and own children ! She was true mother and she has brought up good children. In spite of her haterd toward Jon she didn't do really bed or cruely things/ acts for him ( I can imagine what could did Cersei in Cat's situation). She was smart, brave and very strong and she wasn't bitch like Cersei !!! Of course, watching how her son is killed and thoughts that almost every her children ( except Sansa) are dead made her take revenge. But I don't excuse the actions ofLady Stoneheart.
