NOTE: The following story was written for a good friend of mine. I wanted to clear this in case you’re wondering. Thank you and enjoy.

“Haunted houses,” Nikki said in a serious, dark tone. “They are living places that house the scariest things alive. From ghosts and goblins to witches and monsters. Anywhere you turn, anywhere you go, watch your back. Because there is a fair chance you will run into one and you’ll walk in, leaving all of your fears behind. Then, when the old, broken doors to the house close there is no turning back- ever!”

Nikki was sharing her fascination with the supernatural and horror. Chelsea, Rita, Madison and Sakura were circled around her as they listened. Poor Sakura however had her ears and eyes closed. She couldn’t tolerate scary things. “Relax Sakura,” Madison whispered while tapping Sakura’s shoulder. “It’s just a story. Nothing more.” The girl refused to uncover her ears. Her eyes were filled with tears. Nikki and the others noticed and decided to stop.

The rest of the school hour went by. Sakura and Madison were hanging out with Nikki, Chelsea and Rita near the gate. “Hey, we should go to a haunted house together.” Nikki said. Chelsea and Rita agreed. “We should totally do that,” Chelsea exclaimed with excitement. “We can even do it on Halloween night. That way it will be even creepier.” Through all of this, Sakura stood behind Madison. She was trying her best not to get into the conversation. Madison giggled.

“Sakura, you really should give it a go.” She said while turning her head so that she could see Sakura. Sakura shook her head very fast. There was no way she would go through it, not even with her friends. Madison didn’t bother on explanations and returned to listening to Chelsea, Nikki and Rita.

Their attention turned to Madison and Sakura. “Are you two going as well?” Nikki asked. “I guess I can,” Madison responded. “I’ll have to let my mom know. But Sakura, I’m not so sure.” The poor girl was still acting like a scardey cat. She continued hiding behind her best friend until Nikki found her. “Listen Sakura, you don’t have to come if you don’t want. I know scary things aren’t your cup of tea so it’s fine.”

At the home of the Avalon’s, Sakura was laying on her bed. She felt bad for acting like a fool in front of her friends. “What should I do?” She asked in her mind. When her father called her down stairs for dinner, she got up and put it out of her mind. As everyone was dining, Sakura decided to ask her father about the haunted house thing.

“Dad,” She said. “Is it okay for me to go to a haunted house?” Her father and older brother, Tori, stared at her with surprise. “What made you decide to do this?” Her father asked. “Madison and my school friends are going and I wanted to go with them.” Tori gave a little chuckle. “As if you can survive one.” He said while still chuckling. Sakura gave him an angry look. “Well, if it’s what you want to do then I don’t see why you can’t.” Her father said while smiling. She looked at her father’s face and smiled as well.

After dinner, Sakura went up to her room. Kero was busy playing a video game. “Hey Kero, can I talk to you for a minute?” Sakura asked. In the middle of an intense level, Kero told her to hold on. After achieving the level, he pushed pause and flew to her. “What’s on your mind?” He asked. Taking a deep sigh, Sakura explained the whole situation. Kero was very puzzled.

“So you want to experience a haunted house. That is very puzzling.” He said while putting his left hand close to his mouth. “You know very well I am weak when it comes to scary things,” Sakura said while hugging one of her stuffed animals tightly. “I’m just looking for some helpful advice.” Kero pretty much had nothing to give, but he insisted that she should try it out. “Expect things when you lease expect them. Remember this and you’ll do just fine.” Thanking him for the help, Sakura went along with the rest of the night normally.

The next morning, Sakura was fast asleep. While she was sleeping, the door to her room slowly opened, making a little creaking noise. Out from the darkness stepped a tall figure. All what could be seen was a pair of giant paws. The figure slowly approached the bed, breathing heavily. Sakura then woke up to the strange sounds and after turning to the left, gave a blood-curdling scream. She screamed so loud that it even woke Kero and her father, who quickly raced out of his room and up the stairs to the room.

It turned out Tori was trying to scare Sakura. He was wearing a scary werewolf costume which seemed to have done the trick. Poor Sakura was breathing heavily while tears poured out from her eyes and soaked the bed sheets. “That was not necessary.” The father said. Tori chuckled. “She needs to know what to expect from a haunted house. I’m doing this for her own good.” To Sakura, it was beyond helpful. She pushed Tori while racing out of the room, covering her face.

Through the rest of the day, Sakura refused to talk to Tori. She even stood clear when he was around. When evening arrived, her father decided to have a little talk. “Listen Sakura, I know it was disrespectful of your brother to do what he did earlier, but he’s trying to test your bravery. Haunted houses are supposed to be like that. There are scary things that will pop out of nowhere, but they are not real.” His talk gave her a little bit of happiness.

A little while later, Sakura and Tori apologized to each other as everything returned to normal. Kero on the other hand was very concerned. “What was the deal this morning Sakura?” He asked. She couldn’t decide weather to explain it to him or not. She instead decided to make something up and told him that it was just a bad dream. Believing and accepting what was said, Kero thought nothing more of it and moved on.

The days have flown as well as the weeks. The night at which Sakura goes to a haunted house with Madison and her friends arrived. She was all dressed up and carried a backpack at which Kero was hiding. “Are you really sure you want to do this?” Her father asked. “Yes, I really do dad. I’ll be fine. At lease I hope so.” She responded. After giving him a hug, she opened the door and closed it. Her father stared at the door with a little smile. “Tori? Do you think Julian can go with her?” He asked. “Way ahead of you.” He responded.

Sakura made her way through town. She wasn’t sure where her friends would meet and decided to begin searching. Kero poked his head out a bit. “What are you doing Sakura?” He said quietly while looking at her. “I’m not sure where they are meeting,” She responded. “So I’m trying to figure out where they would be.” It was by that moment when someone approached her from behind. She quickly turned with fright, but was relieved when she knew it was just Julian.

“Hi Sakura,” He said while smiling. “Having trouble finding your friends?” She nodded while blushing a tad. Grabbing her hand gently, Julian led the way. After walking through town, they finally caught sight of the girls, who were actually sitting at a little patio from a small dining place. “Nice for you guys to join us.” Nikki said while smiling. Both Sakura and Julian sat close to each other at which Sakura’s face was completely pink. Her heart was beating very rapidly.

Madison took notice of this and giggled. She thought it was adorable how Sakura’s feelings for Julian just keep bundling. After staying at the patio for a few minutes, everyone got up. They were now on their way to the haunted house. Sakura hugged Julian’s left right arm as she felt comfortable and safe. He didn’t mind it at all as he wanted her to relax. Within minutes, they arrived at the attraction which was called “Haunted Hall”. Nikki’s eyes were shaped like stars as her fanatic side showed. Chelsea and Rita looked at each other with smiles. Madison, Sakura and Julian were side by side observing the place. “You ready Sakura?” Madison asked. Although she wasn’t sure, she slowly nodded and gently squeezed onto Julian’s arm jacket tight.

As they approached the entrance, Sakura continued hugging Julian’s left arm as she moaned. “It’s alright Sakura,” Julian said while looking down at her and smiling. “If anything pops out and scares you, I’ll be here.” Though she was grateful for his protection, Sakura still felt uneasy. As they passed through the entrance it suddenly became dark. Nikki, Chelsea and Rita led the way while Madison, Julian and Sakura followed behind. So far nothing seemed to happen. It wasn’t until they walked a couple of more miles when they noticed some doors that appeared on the left and right.

Being a fan of mystery, Nikki decided to check all the doors herself. On the first door to the left, she found the exist route. The second door next to it had a scary witch inside. The last door had a loud ringing sound while a bright light lit the little room and showed a severed head. Sakura screamed as she shut her eyes tight and grasped Julian’s arm even tighter. Nikki then checked the doors on the right. The first one had a creepy ape-like creature with orange eyes and had an anger expression. The next one had a creepy goblin that was carrying a stick in its right hand. And the final one had what appeared to be an alien life form that pointed a laser gun directly at whoever opened the door.

Having enough, Sakura asked kindly if they would continue. After everyone passed through the door they made their way through more darkness. Spooky sounds of various forms were heard all over the place which seemed to frighten poor Sakura even more. Madison watched with a little sadness, but was happy how far Sakura ventured. Walking through the darkness a moment later, they discovered some lights that were seen straight ahead of them. As they approached, they suddenly discovered something horrifying.

A headless body was seen lying on a prop table. A pool of fake blood was seen on the floor where the head was apparently decapitated. Nikki and the others were really horrified by this, but none of them would compare to how Sakura reacted. Through the whole moment, she buried her head in Julian’s jacket and moaned. When they pressed onward they discovered a new scene at which someone was slaughtering something on a little counter. The stranger turned to reveal his identity. On his left hand, he was carrying a butcher knife that was stained with blood. Nikki and the girls screamed with terror. Sakura, who still had her head buried, didn’t even bother to scream or peek.

As they pressed on, they encountered a lot more scary things including a murderous clown, a scary werewolf and even zombies. The whole experience was horrifying but spectacular. After leaving, Julian managed to calm Sakura. “Well, you went through it.” He said while smiling. Sakura looked at him with surprise. “I-I did?” She asked. Julian nodded. It turned out that she managed to go through a haunted house without the use of hesitation, even though she refused to take a peek. It seemed her goal had been accomplished- in someway.
