I agree... Joyce dying was the hardest episode to watch I thought.

does this question mean what was worse for buffy or what was worse for the viewers?
for buffy- the body
for me personally, passion

I think this was the worst moment for Buffy...this was what caused her to ignore her calling and run away from Sunnydale. I'm sure that she probably felt pain and sadness during the other moments...I mean her mom dying....that's huge heartbreak. But sending Angel to hell seemed to be the hardest for her. She ignored everything...tried to forget, to change, to be normal. Anne was a hard episode for me. It was almost like I could feel Buffy suffering...the body was a hard one too....I was in shock for sooooooo long. I'll have to go back and look at passion...for some reason I don't remember it being hearbreaking...maybe I'm getting it confused with another episode. Another hard one was the episode in season 3 where Buffy and Angel break up...where he tells her he's gonna leave. And she's laying on her bed crying saying something like "I feel like I can't breathe"...hearbreaking.

Oh yeah!! Then there was Riley leaving....that was hard to watch (and I'm not a Briley fan:) And the series finale...with Anya dying and everything...wait...sorry everyone...I just realized how off topic I was getting...

no i definitely think the body was hardest for buffy, mainly because of the point addressed in 'killed by death' and 'no place like home' that buffy can't deal with stuff she can't fight, i think it upset buffy more knowing she could do nothing
if it wasn't for dawn i think she would have gone of the rails more, i mean you can see how cold and how she has to shut down to cope which i think show more emotional stress, than her just flipping out
also joyce is the only constant thing in buffy's life and that small family has always been a number one priority with buffy

personally i don't think becoming can compare to the body

I chose this but I've gotta agree that I think losing Joyce would've hurt her more, like Debs says, it's what Buffy can't fight that she finds so hard to deal with.

But...Killing Angel to save the world comes a close second, having to sacrifice someone your love and your own happiness for your job...and not just that, but to run him through with a sword too!?

I dont remember very well the death of joyce .. and i do remember that buffy killing angel stuck in my mind for all the time .. so that´s way I choose this.

I must admit .. that I was on here place and angel come back to me, I´m not sure that I would have a strainght to kill him.

I hated angel dying, but joyce didn't affect me as much...amd i made of stone?! killing herself to save the world wasn't so hard for buffy, but a lot harder to the scoobies

yeah, i think that buffy had it rough from angel dying and her mother's death could be the hardest thing for buffy to consider of letting go

i can't believe the angel thing is winning, i know it was bad because of willows spell working at the last minute, but someone sacrificing themselves willingly is always worse, you know?

I've said it somewhere else but I just think Buffy wanted to sacrifice herself in a way, it was her way out of everything. She's finally free from all the pressures, responsibility and heartache really.

I would have put her mother's death (by far the hardest for her) but out of these.. SHE killed Angel, Spike sacrificed HIMSELF, and She SACRIFICED herself for dawn. Having to kill her first love wins, even though I love Spuffy! :)
