She could have learned a lot from the Intiative, that what they were doing was wrong. That demons aren't always evil, and that it's not right to torture someone or take away their ability to feed themselves or defend themselves.
But she didn't. She still saw all humans as inherently good, and refused to see that humans can be just as evil and flawed as demons. She only admitted the Intiative was a bad thing when they tried to kill her, but not what they were doing to creatures that weren't human. No matter what you are, it's not right to torture someone.
It was something she was lacking from season two and three that she had in season one before Angel, happiness. I found it very interesting though that the happiest she seemed to be in season four were when she and Spike were under that spell in Something Blue.
That showed me what the relationship could have been, how they could be together. Even when they loved each other they were still fighting. And I think it brought out Spike's feeling for Buffy. Willow only said they need to get married, not that they needed to love eachother. A lot of people don't love each other who are married, it's more of a business deal, so it's interesting that they did. Makes me think she had buried feelings for him to in season four, but that just might be the Spuffy girl in me, lol.
I liked season 7 becuase Buffy really seemed to become the honest to goodness Slayer. In highschool she was very worried about the balance between slayage, school, and social life...ok more slayage and social life. In season 7, she completly embraced everything the slayer was. She understood that to be the slayer meant being alone, making tough decisions, and was sometimes down right painful. She seemed to be at her peek of power as well. The Spuffy thing going on in the last seasons drove me insane...as SMG said :
DreamWatch: Do you think Buffy loves Spike or is it just good sex?
SMG : "I think its 20-something really good sex! I think Buffy was greatly in love with Angel. It will always be Angel. Nothing in her life will ever compare to that. Then she fell in love with Riley. She went from the dark, brooding guy to the good guy, the guy who would protect her, and it didn?t work. She let him down, essentially. So what's the next logical step? The bad guy! She?s supposed to be with the bad guy.
What she?s learning is, there are no rules and that you can be in a relationship with someone, even though they?re not your true love or the one you?re meant to end up with.
"I ran into the producer's office screaming 'Buffy would never do this, with all her history with Angel! It's wrong!"
Thanks to tish for the quotes
there are very few moment of happyness with angel, and even then they're tainted e.g. the graveyard they're both actually thinking about what the mayor said
i love that point about something blue nikadawson! bril
and yeah where is the joker?
tish/scififan - Thankyou so much for that, I always knew SMG agreed with me!!
This probably isn't the best season for Buffy, having to kill Angel and all, but it's the season I like her the most in. She's funnier, cuter...and she goes through so much. Bangel I'm sure have plenty of happy moments, they just don't make as good TV!! It's much better to see the Buffster get put through the wringer. There are all those graveyard smoochies in Bad Eggs though and the moment in Where's My Line where she kisses kim even though he's vamped out.
scififan - Yeah all good thanks, nice to see all you Bangel shippers have been fighting the corner whilst I've been away anyways!
She also realized she loved Spike.
