Did Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Borenanaz actually date or were they just rumours?

I'm pretty certain it was just a rumor started by Fox to bolster interest in the characters relationship and in the show...
I know for a fact that David Boreanaz was FURIOUS with SMG when she refused to appear on the Angel Finale' as he had appeared on the Buffy Finale' without hesitation.

it's a fact that they only went out less than a handful of times during the 2nd season. it was after the eps where angel lost his soul. they admitted they had good chemistry & wanted to see if it went anywhere. sigh..it didn't. db was only just newly separated from his 1st wife & smg was having fun playing the field before hooking up w/ fp, jr. they said they were better as friends.
I know this as true being one of the founding members of the bronze...the first online site started by the wb pr dept where I started as a fact chkr then editor, & the official btvs fanclub also started by wb pr. one of the many things we did was talk to the cast chkg stories for holes, truth vs rumors, ect...

as you said,they were some rumours but i'm pretty sure they are not true.i think they were more of best friends and they cared for each other.i mean smg even devoted an award to david(here's the video).however,i would really like to see them as a couple.

I read an article once and Sarah says that the rumors was wrong because David was (and still) married and I think she was with someone at this time (not with Freddy yet). They're just friends who made jokes on the set like take garlic before a kiss scene...

It's probably just celeb gossip, either way I don't think it's any of our concern.

I'm not sure because I wasn't around them to actually see them together. But I did see pictures of them together. It maybe gossip but I did read something's also around the time they were together. Also in both of their biographies they list each other.

i dont know if u could call it dating cause i dont think they ever went on a date but yeah they were a thing.

It's just romours and idk what bios you guys are reading but if it's on wiki then it's most likely crap can't go by what is said on there Sarah and David were never anything other then friends

I've always wondered about this. They had amazing chemistry, I've seen lots of videos and interviews when they mention each other, say cute and cuddly things and I have to say: I don't think they truly dated but they had something going on for me, there were feelings involved.

David publically admitted that he did have an affair but it wasn't with Sarah it was with a russian lady they latercameout to say that the Sarah rumour was false as was the Emily rumour as it was believed that they too had an affair. Hope that clears things up

I do not believe they dated. She was dating Freddy almost immediately after filming I Know What You Did Last Summer, she mentions that in one of those 17 or Marie Claire interviews on how she and Freddy met. Also like everyone mentioned, David was married. There was an interview where David admits that Sarah was one of his favorite leading ladies and people to kiss, and it was done way after he finished Angel so I dont think if he had any hardships towards her he would give her such bad praise. I think the reason SMG has so much issues with Buffy nowadays is because of some falling out she had with Joss. There was a Comic Con interview where both Charisma Carpenter and Julie Benz, I believe, mentioned having issues working with him. Charisma brought up that she got pregnant during Angel and thats why he was so quick to get rid of her. It may have been more than that but I've seen a few articles about actors that worked with him on Buffy or Angel and werent always on the best of terms. On the flip side though, not everyone can get along all the time so theres bound to be tension here and there.

They actually did date, I believe if you look at IMDB it says a tidbit about it. During the 2nd/3rd-ish season they were dating, then they broke up, and Sarah started dating Freddie.

After working w/Freddie on IKWYDLS & dating him, she dated a soccer player at UCLA. My friend was a student there at the time & new him & saw them together. This was around 1998. I think Buffy's college scenes were actually filmed at UCLA. I knew this info at the time & actually said I knew who she was dating on the Buffy official page message boards & was chastised for violating her privacy, even though I didn't say who she was dating, just that I knew. David cheated on his current wife with mistress number 1(or how they were referred to) of Tiger Woods. He and his first wife broke up right around the time that Sarah was dating the soccer player, so I don't know about this. I think it's probably more of all our fans wish.

No, they did not date. There is no proof. and there is more proof to say that they didn't date. David was with ingrid from 97-99. and in 99 sarah was already with freddie, and they've been together ever since. In 2001 david married jamie, but I'm sure they were together before that. and they've been together ever since, so no.

It's always a mystery for fans if they did hook up or not. But one thing is for sure, "SOMETHING SPECIAL" happened between them during BTVS years which is the basis of their "CONNECTION", as SMG has been saying (upto now) that she and David still share. Maybe it was a different kind of "friendship", and not the kind of normal platonic relationship we normally have with our close friends. Who knows?

I remember an interview (1999) which SMG was quoted before when she was asked to comment on DB's divorce , it goes something like..She and David are close friends and nothing he can do to save his marriage. She said that the marriage was not made in heaven. When she asked about her relationship with David, she replied that she was aware that many people want to know about it but it's for her to know and for us to find out.

I guess, even now, we haven't found it exactly.

Whatever went between them, it's all in the past. I'm just glad they still see each other after SMG's failure to guest on Ats finale and David opened up his frustrations about by commenting a grumpy comment on TV Guide. I guess at some point, with a "friendship" such as theirs, they need to bury the hatchet. They both have separate families, with wonderful children...Nonetheless, they both still have the same affection towards Buffy/Angel love story. As SMG just said recently, she is an Angel Girl! :)
