Buffy the Vampire Slayer Question

How did Angel get back from hell in season 3?

This has been bugging me for a while, I must have missed something - but I never got why Angel randomly came back from hell at the start of season 3

The question was answered in the episode an built upon later: The first brought Angel back in an attempt to get him to kill himself because it is foretold that Angel will be a major player in The Apocalypse. Buffy found the lair of the Bringers in this episode and then later returns to the same spot in Season Seven.

the first actually tells angel 'they' brought him back to kill buffy and be free in the episode 'amends' right after he dreams of biting her

A lot of people felt it was the First ( to kill off Buffy), some people thought it was the ring (was mystical) , some people feel that it was Angel who found a way back (to his love Buffy). I have always felt that it was the Powers that be who brought him back because he is a major player in all the apocalypses that are going to happen.

i think that it had something to do with jasmine and the Powers. its possible that they intervened to bring him back so he could father Connor, who would father Jasmine etc.

The First brought him back with the hopes of tricking him into killing Buffy.

There is a canon suggestion made in the episode 'Amends'.

Although it's not directly established, The First claimed to have brought him back to influence him to once again lose his soul to Buffy (and then kill her) apparently so that the pivotal role the Shanshu Prophecy foretells of him playing in the apocalypse would be evil as the prophecy's wording doesn't require one way or the other.

Driving him instead to suicide was just as acceptable, presumably because death equally ensures that his role won't be good since it cancels out his role entirely.

Now, I believe, it was the PTB who stopped his suicide attempt. There is no way a snowfall in SoCal isn't divine intervention. Snow isn't possible in SoCal.
