what are some good books for teens to read?

Anything Scott Westerfeld. He is one of the few popular (well, really semi-popular) teen writers of today who actually writes decent books. His books include:
-The Uglies Series (HIGHLY recommended)
-Peeps
-Leviathan
-The Midnighters

Another very good teen book is Magic or Madness by Justine Larbelestier. Extremely good book. Highly recommended.

Of course, if you haven't read the Harry Potter books yet, those are definitely worth your time (seeing the movies is NOT enough. Trust me. The movies are good, but they don't even hold a candle to the books. The first two are childish (but still brilliant), but from the third one on, you cannot call it a purely children's series).

Incarceron by Catherine Fisher is really a great book. It's new, so many people do not know of it yet, but it's truly amazing.

Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere is not to be missed as well. Amazing, imaginative, and highly recommended.

My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picolt is amazing as well. This one's not fantasy, but it's heart touching and very hooking. This is one great book.

I'm currently reading The Hunger Games, and I must say they are quite amazing. I'd recommend them, but I want to finish them first. But at this point, A+!

-City of Ember. The movie pretty much sucked. However, the books are amazing. They are truly very good. I'd recommend them to you any day.

-Percy Jackson and the Olympians. These are a fun read. They aren't absolutely great books, but they are fun, and I'd recommend them.

-The Giver. If you have not read this yet, READ IT. This is one heck of a book. It is truly amazing. Just read it. You won't regret it.

-Kingdom Keepers. A fun read, and I rather liked it. I haven't read the second one yet. But it was so good, I couldn't put it down!

-Peter and the Starcatchers. Same author as Kingdom Keepers (Ridley Pearson). It's basically how Peter Pan came to be. It has a few holes in it, but it is a whole lot of fun!

Most popular teen-reads nowadays are corny, have subliminal messages, and/or are poorly written with Mary Sue protagonists.

A few books to stay away from at all costs:
-The Twilight Saga
(Completely anti-feminist, makes abuse look romantic from psychological abuse (especially that one) to sexual abuse to physical abuse, it is poorly written, and the main character is horribly, utterly Mary Sue)

-Need
(A wannabe Twilight)

Other books that are poorly written, but ones I still found to be entertaining at least, include:
-The Darkest Powers (starting with The Summoning)

I'm not really sure what kind of books you like but I recommend The "Confessions of Georgia Nicholson" by Louise Rennison. It's hilarious!!

Many of my friends and I are fans of this book, you can read the first 45 pages of the Author's work before you buy too.

I'd recommend the "12 Kingdoms" saga. Its really AWESOME. It has also been made into an anime so here is a trailer.

- CHERUB - Robert Muchamore
It's not amazingly written, but still a good series. There are 12 books, running from The Recruit to Shadow Wave. CHERUB Series 2 is soon to be released, with People's Republic as it's first book.

I really liked the Earagon series by Christopher Paolini!!

I definitely recommend the Uglies series. Its just pure epicness. Pretty much anything Scott Westerfeld.

For horror I guess Christopher Pike would be good.

Nicholas Sparks writes amazing books. A lot are actually really good movies.

The Mortal Instruments series is a must read too.

I know that the Cirque Du Freak and Gatekeepers series are kinda for tweens, but those series are pretty good.

The Harry Potter series definitely is a good choice.

House of Night series is good.

If anything else you MUST read the Giver series, you will not regret it, I promise.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is an amazing light novel series with ten book! Excuse me as I plagiarize a description from Wikipedia. A summary for the first book:
Kyon is an ordinary first-year high school student who has given up his fantasies of espers, time travelers, and aliens as he left middle school. However, sitting behind him is the beautiful, intelligent, and eccentric girl Haruhi Suzumiya, who in her class introduction blatantly states her singular desire to meet aliens, time travelers, or espers. Interested, Kyon starts trying to make small talk with her before class, eventually leading to normal conversations with Haruhi. One day, after making a comment about Haruhi's displeasure with the available school clubs, he finds himself dragged into membership of the newly formed Save the World by Overloading it with Fun Haruhi Suzumiya (or SOS) Brigade. I have heard very good recommendations for the hunger games serious, percy jackson series, and Janet Evanovich's series (1-18) i heard were very funny.

My favorites ae definitely the Hunger games, Percy Jackson, the uglies series, maximum ride series, the I am number four series, and if you don't count it as Percy Jackson the heroes of Olympus series.

The Shanara serie of Terry Brooks. He is working on the 27th book.
It is a fantasy serie.

I would suggest Shiver by Maggie Steifvater, the Darkest Powers Series by Kelly Armstrong (first- The Summoning), Gallagher Series by Ally Carter (first- I'd Tell You I love You, But Then I'd Have To Kill You), Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins, and The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting.

My absolute favorite book is Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly. At first I wasn't sure that I was going to like it, but now it is officially my favorite book!

definitely Immortal Beloved by Cate Tiernan! It's about an immortal, Nastasya, who leaves her friends, Innocencio, Boz, and Cicily, after Incy seriously injured someone. You learn about her other lives through memories and meet a strange group of people...WARNING: Heavy swearing!! Besides that, it's a REALLY REALLY good book :)

If you want to read fantasy: try reading the Mortal Instruments or their prequel, the Infernal Devices. Both series are good reads for teenagers.

I also liked Crossing Stones by Helen Frost, it's a historical novel.
A historical/crime series of novels I recommend are the Matthew Shardlake series by C.J Sansom.

And for a quick read, there's White Crow by Marcus Sedgwick. It's horror/fantasy, quite short to read, the atmosphere is peculiar but you don't regret reading it. A lot of books by Marcus Sedgwick are suitable for teens and quick, nice reads by the way.

Ah, and for adventure, there's The Alexander Cipher by Will Adams. It's a lot like a Dan Brown novel, same style, but more for young adults.

Definitely the Nightshade series by Andrea Cremer. The trilogy is set in the present, but the biggest thing about it is, the characters have to figure out the truth of their past. I recommend you read the trilogy before the prequels. (Because I hadn't heard of the Nightshade trilogy until I had read the first prequel, Rift.) It spoils the trilogy quite a bit. BUT, they are still amazing. They are also great if you're into romance. Both the prequels and the trilogy have their very own love triangle.

If you're not into that, there is also the very popular Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini. The books follow a young dragon rider, Eragon, who has to rise up after the fall of the Dragon Riders to defeat the evil tyrant Galbatorix. There is Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr, and Inheritance. (In that order.)

I strongly recommend both of them. Especially since I'm a teenager myself. ^.^ Have fun reading!

I'm going to do the best I can to describe it without giving to much away. It has romance, action, and a little magic. All the adults disappear and all the kids are trapped in a large dome. It tells the story of a kid sam.
