Ok, so I thought I'd take some time to explain why I feel Bonnie's treatment on the show is worst than all the other characters. First of all, I think all us Bonnie supporters realize that every character on the show has had their share of issues and pain. TVD is a drama after all so all the characters will end up wth drama filled lives. but there's a formula of cost and benefit that all characters are treated according to; except Bonnie. I'm going to BRIEFLY touch on our main and main supporting characters. not that our villians, supporting side characters and guest characters aren't important. it would just take an eternity to talk abut everyone who's ever been on and our main people prove the point i think..lol! I'll map it out like this:
First, the three "main characters":
Damon:
Damon has definately experienced pain. Generally, his Katherine problems, his elena problems, and his overall bonding and angst issues. So the writers have his benefits equal or maybe even outweigh his cost or suffering. He gets plenty of screen time so we can have a chance to bond with him, he gets to always show his vulnerable side so we can forgive him, he gets plenty of temporary "love interests" and he has his elena longing. His character gets pulled through drama but his "rewards" on the show are equally invested in so it balances out.
Stefan:
Poor Stefan definately suffers to. He has his guilt, his ripper issues, and his elena, damon and elena and damon problems. but the writers give him plenty of screen time, elena as a love interest, a trouble filled yet ever present brother relationship, and an opportunity for tvd fans to bond with him. so, it balances out.
Elena:
Ok, like her or not, she's been through alot as well. She, ofcourse, lost her parents, has to deal with vamp drama and guilt issues with how it affects the people around her, jenna's death, jeremy leaving, and stefan and damon drama. but once again, they even her out, and some would say overly so. She gets loads and loads of screen time. She gets loads of love interests: matt, damon, and stefan. all she has to do is thumb through her options. She has tons of protectors: stefan, damon, bonnie, caroline, alaric, and others. She's in almost every show's topic, good or bad, that keeps her the center of tvds attention. So yeah the writers more than make up for it.
these three characters get the best treatment from the writers and are never under paid for their troubles .
and now for our other main "supporting characters"these characters are generally lower paid for their issues and don't get as much screen time as supporting characters. but that's usually the formula: your main characters get alot of drama and alot of benefits. and your supporting characters get less screen time so get less benefits and less is required from them because of that. makes sense
Caroline:
She lost her father, she had to go through an abusive relationship with damon, she had to go through a vamp transition, she had to go through relationship drama with matt and tyler. but Caroline is repaid as well. she's given love interests: damon, matt, tyler, and now klaus. she gets a good ammount of screen time, though ofcourse not even close to damon/stefa/elena.
jeremy:
jeremy had to lose his parents, lose vicki and anna, lose jenna, and deal with all the vamp drama. but he gained love interests: bonnie, anna, vicki. in all fairness, he lost vicki and ana. but he had another chance with anna and dropped kicked bonnie after ripping out her heart. now he did get his memory wiped but he also gets a fresh life. so i think its best for him.
Matt:
He lost his mom, vicki, elena and he has to deal with vamp issues. but some would say that matt is given less because he gives less. his character is noble but isn't in the position to save alot of buts in all the supernatural crossfire; so the writers may feel like payback for matt isn't as necassary to even the scales.
alaric:
Alaric lost his wife and jenna. he has to deal with vamp issues. he has to deal with his split personality brought on by the ring. writers gave him jenna and the dr. he got his friendship with damon and a new family with elena. underpaid but not forgotten.
Tyler:
tyler lost his dad, and mason. he lost vicki i suppose, though i don't think he loved her. he had to deal with wherewolf/hybrid drama. the writers gave him vicki and caroline. his character is not around much but they don't over nelect him.
All of these side-charcters are given inconsistent pay outs to even out the drama thery're put through. but they're generally paid out according to a supporting characters screen time.
then we get to Bonnie. bonnie is technically a supporting character so should be asked to sacrifice the smaller amount required by characters with less screen time. Instead, she's given far less screen time than a main caracter but is required to sacrifice far more than any main character of the show and is paid out less than any supporting character. it seems like everything the writers have given her, they take away. her family, her love interests. she's the only character that's continuously called upon to save the day or help. everyone calls bonnie 911..everyone needs her help. even villians need her. so bonnie helps everybody, even people who hurt her. and what does she get to keep? NOTHING! only her powers, but they're used to help people; sometimes it seems like it's the only reason the writers gave her powers. her benefits should be much higher considering what is required of her! they have bonnie brain blasting damon who they know people love and then dont give her enough screen time so we can bond with her to soften it. for example: damon wreaks havoc regularly, but is given so much screen time. the writers make sure we're given plenty of time to bond with him so he's usually forgiven everything. everyone else gets overlapping love interests so if they lose one, another one slides in the blank space. Bonnie get's a love interest and then gets it taken away and it could be forever untill they're replaced. again, this would be different if less was required of her. they don't let her keep her mom or her loves. and everything seems to end ugly for her. Her mom abandoned her, her dad is just m.i.a., jeremy broke her heart, people treat her like it's her job to do their bidding.
All I ask is that the writers even out the scales for bonnie. they use her whenever they choose and write her in as a magic wand for everybody's problems. but then when it comes it making sure she has some type of silver lining, they run out of time.
