Boku no Hero Academia Question

Why do you guys like Bakugou?

He has been a douche to Deku / Midoriya for no reason. He lacks any empathy towards any other characters. His ego level is pretty much over infinite. And he's like angry 100% of the time. So I'm super curious on why do you guys still manage to like him. Does he develop during the 2nd season or in the manga and become more mature?

He is the Sasuke of Naruto. He's the rival hero which gives you the ride of the love to hate emotional roller coaster!

By the way his name is spelled Bakugo not Bakugou. Just to clear that up.

Hmm... I have the same question too. My friends say that they hate Deku and love Bakugo but I don't get it. It could be that since he acts like a child they find that funny but it could be that he is the main protagonist, but they think that since Deku/Izuku is the main hero with no quirk, that they are trying to be unique? I have absolutely no idea!

There is actually a reason why he's mean to Deku. It doesn't excuse the behavior, but it explains it. He does have empathy, the most famous example being when he has a mental breakdown over the fact that he was the cause of All Might's retirement (notice how he only blamed himself and not Deku, the one who technically "took" All Might's power from him, which Bakugou had deduced by that point in the story. I think that speaks volumes about his character). His ego has an explanation as well. People also like angry characters all the time, not sure why you're confused about this specific one.

Bakugou is a complex character. Of course he had fangirls with his angry demeanor since day 1, but his fanbase has only grown since the beginning of the series. He placed #3 in the manga's first popularity poll and has been #1 in the next 3 because yes, slowly but surely he is maturing and the audience, especially the Japanese audience (who partakes in these polls) fking loves that. He was never a cardboard cut-out mean character that hates everyone and will inevitably become the antagonist. He's unique, and fans have picked up on that.

Since the very beginning Bakugou has been adamant about becoming a hero, not a villain; he refused to join the League of Villains and didn't even bother getting on their good side, after all. He doesn't accept a win if it wasn't a fair fight, and he respects his opponents (and demands them to respect him in turn, leading to angry outbursts when this doesn't happen). Despite his personality he's always had a decent moral compass, and it's been growing clearer the more his character develops. He's slowly learning to cooperate with teammates, he's shown more respect for Deku, and he's becoming aware of his own flaws. He went from getting pissed off over Deku imitating his moves to actually admitting to himself with an ambitious smile on his face that he wants Deku to be watching him (!!!).

Fans have loved Bakugou because he always had the potential for character growth, and that's exactly what happened.

Actually I don't really know why I like him. Everything you said is right, plus I've only watched the first season so I don't know how he is now. But I have a great feeling he will be better and become friends with Izuku.
So yeah I don't know why but I just like him. I do understand where you're coming from though.

I was in the same boat as you when I first started watching BNHA- I could not STAND Bakugou, because at first he seemed like nothing but a selfish, heartless jerk... but I’ve always been open to the possibility of him getting better character development later on, and slowly but surely, that has definitely happened! I warmed up to him the most in season 3, as that’s when he gets the best character development he’s had so far(in the anime anyway, I dunno about the manga cuz I haven’t read it) We learn a bit more about him and his motivations, and we see him start to become close friends with Kirishima... and through that friendship we learn that underneath the many, MANY layers of anger is a guy who cares a lot about his best friend ^u^ Ep. 50 also gives us some insight into his home life and why he may have turned out the way he did- his mom is, uhhh... not my idea of a likeable character ^^; I started to sympathize with him a bit more after that ep, but ep. 61... oh man, ep. 61 is the episode that made me LOVE Bakugou! We really get a good look inside the poor guy’s head- his feelings of inferiority, the intense amount of guilt he’s been harboring over All Might, it all comes out here and I was hit with the FEELS! And at the end, his relationship with Izuku, while not completely mended by any means, is definitely on its way there, and I thought it was a pretty satisfying ending overall :) There are many more analyses out there that are a hundred times more coherent than mine, but that’s basically why I like Bakugou- while he still has a LOT to work on, I’m proud of how far he’s come since season 1, and I actually consider him to be one of my favorite characters now ^u^ He’s a really interesting and complex character, and I hope you enjoy watching him grow as much as I have! :)

I'll explain the the best way i can. My Hero Academia/Boku No Hero Academia Katsuki Bakugo and Izuku Midoriya Deku is basically designed after Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha. My Hero Academia is Basically the Super Hero version of Naruto series. There similar in a lot of ways. Just like people like Naruto, Sasuke or both. People the same way about Deku and Bakugo. Deku and Bakugo is like Naruto and Sasuke. Characters from my childhood. I could never like either or character over the other. Watch this video.
