Blue's Big Musical Movie is the first Blue's Clues film. It was released on home video in 2000 and premiered on television in 2002.

The film was made during the time of the original series, so the film has the same cast as the original series. It was made while Steven Burns was still the host, so Steve is the host of the film. Donovan Patton hadn't been hired yet, so Joe doesn't appear in the film.

Steve is the only one of the human hosts to appear in both Blue's Clues films. He was the protagonist of Blue's Big Musical Movie and a supporting player in Blue's Big City Adventure.

The film is notable for having a storyline where Steve feels bad that he's never able to find any clues by himself. The viewers are so good at finding clues, but he struggles to find clues without their help. In the film, Steve tries to find a clue before the viewers can.

Although Blue is the title character, she's not as heavily involved in the plot as you might think. As usual, Steve is the host and protagonist. Two side characters from the series, Sidetable Drawer and Periwinkle, have prominent subplots in the film. However, Blue doesn't really have a subplot of her own. She is involved in the titular musical that the film is built around. Also, as usual, she leaves clues for Steve to find. However, unlike Steve, Sidetable Drawer and Periwinkle, Blue doesn't really go through any kind of arc or change in any way. Because of that, Steve is the film's true protagonist, while Sidetable Drawer and Periwinkle are co-deuteragonists. That leaves Blue as the tritagonist.

The film is notable for having Ray Charles. While he didn't physically appear in the film, he did the voice of G-Clef. G-Clef is a musical note that helps Steve on his journey. Ray Charles was a legendary singer, so having him lend his talents to Blue's Clues was a big deal. His song in the film is incredibly catchy and one of the best songs to come from the original era of Blue's Clues. The film was one of Ray Charles's last acting roles. Having him guest star in Blue's Clues was a great way of introducing younger viewers to his great singing.

In the part of the film with Ray Charles, G-Clef is joined by some other musical notes. The other musical notes were voiced by Jimmy Hayes, Jerry Lawson, Joe Russell and Jayotis Washington of The Persuasions.

Due to the film not getting a theatrical release, it's hard to know how well it did. However, the film was very well received. Critics thought the film was well done, while fans were pleased with it. Steve considered the film to be one of his favorite Blue's Clues things that he participated in.

Blue's Big Musical Movie was the only feature-length Blue's Clues film for a long time. Sadly, no film was made during Joe's era. That's what inspired me to come up with a film pitch for a film where Joe is the human protagonist. In 2022, a second Blue's Clues film finally came out. It was made during Josh's era as the host, but Steve and Joe appear in the film, too.

One of the most memorable aspects about the original Blue's Clues film is that legendary singer Ray Charles guest-voiced as a musical note named G-Clef. Ray Charles is one of the...
