He really liked, even loved Blade, like a son. He admitted it. Blade liked the old man too. It was really sad for him to die.

@Storystuff: He was killed in the third movie. The building where he and Blade were hiding out was blown up and Whistler (presumely) died in the explosion. He certainly wasn't useless, cause he did help Blade by making him weapons and by working on his serum. And he was Blade's back up whenever the big man went out on a hunt.

@samjhart: I was sad too. I think Blade really saw him as a father.

i personally didn't like the third movie and his premature death was one of the reasons why. i think that he should have died or have been killed eventually but in a way that made Blade have to go and avenge his death. like if he saw Dracula kill him or something like that.

@ME-Amour: Well, I think Whistler was dying anyway. Didn't he have cancer? I didn't want him to die but I guess it was inevitable. Knowing him he probably would've preferred to go down fighting instead of dying because of some decease.. but instead he blew up that building because he wanted to avoid Blade being caught by the government. He didn't want them to find any information. But yeah, I guess Blade out for revenge would've been a nice touch.. :)
