I have no idea, I've always called him/her a he. Because Grell is a boy, just because he sees himself as a girl doesn't mean he isn't still a boy. I've never liked the idea of people changing their gender, you were born a boy so you are a boy. I support Gay Rights, but....I just never liked the idea of people changing their gender like that. Plus, he still looks like a boy. I don't see no boobs on him, he only dresses like one and has long hair.

???No idea when this was announced or made official, but i have always thought Grelle to be a guy that crossdresses.....Ever heard this quote:

"I want to have a baby of my own alas me being MALE is a bit of a problem" -Grelle

^The author herself said Grell was trans.

I have a difficult time seeing Grell as female, but it's mostly because of her name. Grell said she was serious about getting surgery to transit herself into being physically female if she could.

I call Grell a 'he' because that's what everyone in the anime and manga call 'him'. 'He's' Grell. There's really no other explanation.

Grell is male so I call him a him, I don't care to be honest if he wants to be female, he'll always be a he to me.

People can address Grell however they want, I address him as a he, because he is.

If you have male organs, you are, in fact, a "He". Nuff said

^Physically, not mentally. There's a difference between your gender and your sex, and really why should your genitals define who you are?

You're all disgusting. When someone wants to be addressed as a specific gender, you fucking refer to them as that fucking gender. If Grell is a transgender woman, she is a fucking woman.

You can accept every fucking crazy thing in this show as okay, but the moment a character is trans*, you say "OH NO, TOO FAR. HE'S A HE BECAUSE I SAID SO LMAO". Fucking gay demon butlers and you can't call Grell a her. Disrespectful as hell. I hope none of you ever meet a real trans* person, lest you start asking for their "real" name or some stupid shit.

Seriously, this shouldn't even be debated. Grell is a transwoman, this has been stated by the author before and it is clear that she would prefer to be called a girl. All these stupid comments like, "lol I don't care if the author says Grell is a girl he's a guy" or "if you have a male body you HAVE to be male" are incredibly offensive and disrespectful towards trans people. I have to agree with one of the comments above, transphobia is disgusting and if you can't accept that Grell is a transgender when it's a canon fact, you are an asshole.

I can understand why some people are confused since it's never mentioned in the anime but Grell still has said directly that she wishes to be seen as a woman.

In reality I would agree. But Grell is not a real person, male or female, so you can't actually show disrespect to him/her. It might seem disrespectful to the author, but that's a different issue entirely.

That being said, if someone asks you to use a set of pronouns, that is the polite thing to do. As long as they dont get angry if you slip up now and then, everything should be fine.
