How bad is the nosebleed section of a concert/play?

One of my fave musicals is coming to town soon, and I'm wondering if I should save money to get good seats or do the Student deal thing which'll probably leave me in the nosebleed section (the seats that they sell cheap just to get rid of them). Are those seats that bad and should I save? Or should I go for the cheap seats?
