My husband and I watched a film documentary last evening and there was a clip of Bette strangling a woman and when she stops she says "sorry". I would love to watch the whole film. If you
know the name of the film it would be greatly appreciated.
The film is "Old Aqaintances" also starring Mariam Hopkins.I ordered a DVDs online and usually watch it at least once a week. There is also a young Gig Young actor. Hope you find it! It is a delight email and leet me know if you like it
Bette Davis and Joan Crawford lay claim to the most infamous Hollywood feud of all time; still to this day. But as far as intensity of dislike between two stars, Bette herself said that her animosity of Miriam Hopkins, which was mutual, far exceeded that of her and Joan's. This was well known throughout the Warner Bro. studio lot, as well as other studios. So much so, that when word got out of the climatic scene for Bette to shake Miriam, spectators gathered to position themselves above the walls of the room it was filmed in for a bird's - eye - view.
The movie is OLD ACQUAINTANCE (1943). Fearing for her safety - Hopkins sought advice from a professional who told her that the only defense she had would be to let her whole body go limp to absorb the shock. This is an historic scene in cinema for the reason that what you are witnessing on film is not acting, but real life drama right before your eyes, in which Bette is actually trying to hurt Miriam and Miriam is trying to survive the ordeal. Notice the intensity of Bette's eyes during the assault. It ain't acting folks; it's the real McCoy!!
