I believe it is to some extent; you're forcing your child to do something that they shouldn't have to do, it's objectifying and degrading and they have no control over it. Effectively you're reducing them to nothing but your shiny child trophy being used used for self centred refected glory.

Would I however go as far as calling it child abuse? The pageant isn't really effecting the child's wellbeing and the child might well genuinally want to participate in the pageant and when I hear child abuse I think of beatings, tear downs, verbally and physically terrarising children, even sexual assualts and entering them into a beauty pageants seems so minor in comparison and immediately seems an overreaction but is it? Some might say yes and some might say no and both would have a valid point, yet I'd still be skeptical about both responses.

I can't give you a yes/no answer because it's dabatable really and I'm on the fence.

Yes. They're children, and those parents are parading them about in bikinis. They're putting them on show for pedophiles.

Only if it's against their will.
It's really no difference from soccer, piano, gymnastics, or theater.

I do not believe that extra curricular activities are abusive.

To me, pageants are just for fun and to help with being shy. If they want to be in Pageants, let them, but if your forcing them, them its kinda child abuse. So yes and no

If your child wants to be in them that's one thing, but if you force them to enter, I think that's horrid. It may not be considered abuse in legal terms but I think that parents who force their children into child beauty pageants and are like the psycho stage parents you see on TV are living their lost pageant dreams vicariously through their children. And a lot of the clothes and make-up in child beauty pageants don't look very age appropriate in my opinion.

Not if you're child wants to do it. Plus, it's very serious to be in those things. Have you seen the competition lately?
