My favourite thing about this version is how it develops on so many characters' backstories. I was especially impressed with Maurice, who has a lot of depth in this one thanks to the added story of what happened to Belle's mother, and the impact it had on him. Also, the Beast's background was explored too; we learned about his parents and how they affected his life. I also liked the part where Belle was seen teaching a child to read; it's established that the villagers disapprove of her, but we don't really get to see that in the animated version besides their puzzled reactions towards her during a song. So I like that this was looked into more.
And at the same time, I feel like the cast stayed true to their animated counterparts, while still being able to make them their own. I've heard that Emma Watson worked with the director and writers, allowing her some input on defining her character. Don't know how true that is, but if that's correct, then I wonder if any of the other cast members had the same opportunity? Either way, the actors, director, and writers all seemed to know how to handle the characters.
The special effects were amazing quality too! Just wanted to throw that in there.
