nmdis The plot is quite good, so the king doesn't like Mariposa at first? Ahh....the movie sounds quite adventurous. And reminds me of Fairytopia series, Classical movies are back i guess. I want to know why Catania afraid from flying. Waiting for more stuffs!

MajorAbbey Don't tell me... the king doesn't get a doll. And who's Zee? Is that the puffball thing? That said, that plot could be quite interesting.

MelodyLaurel By this point, I think we can all agree that side characters (especially old ones) aren't going to be made into dolls. Plus the king and Mariposa aren't on good terms, if this is anything to go by. Kids hate characters that dislike the protagonist. 1 hour and 20 minutes is plenty of time compared to recent movies. Hopefully most of that won't be wasted on Mariposa and Catania taking a tour around Shimmervale.

MajorAbbey Of course, because everyone who dislikes the protagonist is automatically evil! How could I forget?! Good lesson to teach the kids, there. You're right, though. You'd think I'd have realized that by now, but apparently it still annoys me. (However, you're wrong about side characters. Any who are young and/or conventionally attractive, no matter how minor a role they play, will get dolls. I've figured that out, at least). Also, I'm curious about what this "misunderstanding" is.

manu962 I don't want to sound rude but how do you expect someone that hates the protagonist to be good? Just the point that they "hate" someone means they're not that good. Why would a good person hate anyone? At least in movies. Did you see the protagonists ever hate anyone? No, they don't even hate the villains. Even the sidekicks that are good don't hate anyone. It's just teaching that it isn't good to hate anyone. Is that a bad lesson? The only character that fits with the description you said is Duchess Amelia. Some little girls use to hate her just because she wanted the best of Tori. She didn't hate or even dislike her. And which "little" girl would like to play with an old person doll. They like Barbie because she is young, beautiful, wears outfits that they would want to wear. Why would they spend money is dolls that their main target won't buy?

MajorAbbey Vi, before I go any further, I apologise if I come across as being rude to you. I don't want to be. You make a good point about hating and how it's a bad thing (in fact, I think that was a wrong choice of words on my part. "Disagreeing" would've been more appropriate), and I have nothing against you personally. I'm more annoyed at Mattel itself than you. But this whole idea about the target audience not buying older characters is just bloody ridiculous. Firstly, girls don't just buy dolls because they want to look like them. They also buy dolls to re-enact stories with them; sometimes original stories, sometimes ones they particularly like. Mattel itself seems to be aware of this, seeing as it's still claiming that "girls can re-enact their favourite scenes!" The Disney company is still aware of it, which is why they made dolls of characters such as King Triton and the Fairy Godmother. And here's the funny thing about those dolls; THEY SELL! Even King Triton, who's hardly a friendly guy, sells! And they're aiming for the same target audience! Also, not too long ago, Mattel themselves released a set of grandparents as part of the "Happy Family" range. We're talking two old people here. And, funnily enough, THEY SOLD!! So where's this idea that girls are automatically opposed to buying older characters? Because there's more than a bit of evidence that seems to contradict it. Not to mention the fact that people have actually REQUESTED dolls of other characters, including the villains! They may not be the target audience, but they have money and they are willing to spend it. So it's not like no one will buy them or anything. But what really bothers me about this is that Mattel won't even try. It's not a case of them making a doll of an older character and it not selling, because that's never happened. It's a case of them not even trying. Just like they won't even try to make any heroine wear any outfit other than pink. Their marketing department is lazy. And to make matters worse, they try to get around it by passing these characters off as "terrible, terrible people" even when (as with Amelia and Natasha) they want what's best for the protagonist. In other words, anyone who could possibly pass for "old" is automatically bad. Finally, if Mattel expects their target audience to overlook any character who isn't conventionally attractive, what the hell does that say about society today? Is that what these movies are trying to teach kids these days? That if you're not young and pretty, you can go hang yourself? That, to me, is a far worse idea to promote than hating people. A character should be judged by their personality, not shunned because they're "ugly" or some such BS. And as for what little girl would like to play with an old person doll? A little girl who liked the character. A little girl who wanted to re-enact a scene from her favourite movie. Because those little girls do exist.

manu962 You're right about the "girls can re-enact their favourite scenes!" thing but still I'm wondering which girl would like to brush the gray hair of an old character or dress them up. They never tough girls to hate the old people. Even Tori said she loved her aunt even that she was very strict to her. Tori never said she hates her. Why do you think they want to make old people as evil? Do you think that being strict is evil? Many old people are strict and that doesn't make them evil or bad. The Snow Queen was the counterpart of Natasha because they both wanted Kristyn to dance their way. But everyone know Natasha in not the antagonist there. The Snow Queen is a lot worse than Natasha and that's why she is the antagonist. As about the pink outfits, they don't want to change the color because that's Barbie's color. And they tend to make dolls of characters that are only Barbie's, Skipper's, Stacie's or Chelsea's age.

MajorAbbey Tori didn't hate Amelia, true. But she has a funny way of showing affection. Mocking people is not okay. I don't care how much you claim to like them. It isn't. Of course I don't think that being strict is evil. I've been defending these characters' rights to be strict for God knows how long. It's Mattel who makes rule-enforcing out to be evil. Casting Madame Natasha as the Snow Queen isn't a good sign, and the fact that they think it's okay for Tori to be mocking her aunt solely for being strict is far worse. Yes, we know Madame Natasha isn't the real antagonist of PS, but how many girls are going to pick up on that, especially since Mattel doesn't think she's worthy of having a doll? (But, then again, they didn't think ANYONE who actually did anything in PS was worthy of having a doll, even Hailey.) And look at this movie. Here we have two older characters, and both of them are being portrayed in a negative way. One of them apparently has some difficulties with the protagonist. The other one is the villain. If Mattel doesn't want kids to hate older people, then maybe they shouldn't make the ONLY two older characters the "evil" ones. And yes, I know pink is Barbie's colour, but that didn't stop her wearing blue in IP, or purple in MoP, or even red in CC. She even had different dress styles! A lot of people who saw the book cover for "the pearl princess" said she looks like Merliah. That's part of the problem. And the fact that they only make characters who are of a certain age into dolls is also part of the problem. Because making a new doll design would take effort, and Mattel can't do that with the movie lines anymore.

manu962 Yes, what Tori did to her aunt was quite bad and I hope they won't make any protagonists as selfish as Tori and Keira again. As I said before about Natasha, they were relating her with the Snow Queen just because they want the dance in their own way. They wanted to make every character have a magical counterpart, and Natasha was the only one who had something in common with the Snow Queen. Can you imagine Madame Katarina or Hailey as the Snow Queen? They just couldn't find anyone better The same thing happens in Disney movies too. The old character are portrayed as the strict ones and the ones who are afraid of changes. They lived in other times and sometimes have a hard times accepting the changes. Look at Sulltan, Princess Jasmine's father or King Triton, even Prince Charming's father in Cinderella. The old characters are always the ones who think of the good of more than one people and as I said before are afraid of changes, and prevent the good things to happen but in the end they always end up being good. So it's not only Matte than does this. Again I hope I'm not sounding rude but I think you're over judging Mattel. I understand that you as a grown up person want more attention to the older characters but it's not really their fault.

MajorAbbey You're right about the Snow Queen. Thank you for pointing that out. You're right about the Disney movies, too, but here's the difference. While these characters are portrayed as strict and being uncomfortable with change (which, by the way, is something I relate to, which may be why this is such a touchy subject for me), they aren't demonized for it. Look at Elinor from Brave. She has roughly the same problem as Duchess Amelia, but we get to see her side of the story. We realize why she is the way she is, and why she has these responsibilities. She isn't treated as a bad person because of it. (And, incidentally, she had two dolls made of her. Both these dolls did very well.) Mattel, meanwhile, acts as if Amelia is at fault for, say, wanting Tori to write a speech, or telling Tori off for bringing Keira into a place Tori KNEW was only for the Royal Family to see. And notice that I'm saying Mattel is responsible for this, not Tori. She's just acting in character. It's the story that's condoning this and making Amelia out to be the bad guy. And no, you don't sound rude. If anything, I probably sound rude, and I'm sorry for it because I really don't have any issues with you. But I do have a lot of issues with Mattel; and yes, it is their fault. They could make dolls of these characters, but they don't. They could portray older people in a positive light. These are their movies. They have control over this. In fact, they used to do it pretty well. If I'm being overly judgemental, it's because I'm judging them by the standards they set themselves. I'm comparing this with, say, Nutcracker, which didn't feel like it was necessary to make an old, traditional person out to be the bad guy just because he committed the crime of having grey hair. (Although, then again, they did take said character and turn him into a two-year-old for the sake of marketing, so maybe I'm really late to the party with this. But at least he got a doll at all.)

manu962 We all know why Amelia was like that too. We know that she promised Tori's mother she would make her a proper princess. And it's ok, you don't sound rude either. And I understand you. It's just that I already learned to accept that Mattel makes dolls only for the age of Barbie, Skipper, Stacie and Chelsea/Kelly as I said before. That's the reason Mayor Mint, Captain Candy are made as Todd dolls. I think they have a rule of what age their dolls are. While Disney is not a toy company and can do whatever they want.

MajorAbbey We do, but not to the same scale. And Tori still gets away with mocking her. But either way, I envy you for coming to terms with it. I guess I'm just tired of the characters I like being treated so poorly by the company, especially since they're the only ones who can really make merchandise featuring them. And I really wish Mattel would try to be more inventive with the doll lines again. (Plus, I haven't had the best day.)

nmdis MajorAbbey and Vi you had a long discussion LOL (plz don't mind i am just joking) Anyway about the kings doll I don't think Mattel should make king's doll as kids usually buy dolls of protagonist mainly. And I think all persons have different thoughts it depend on us what we think (i am saying about "hating" topic). If a person "hate" any antagonists or doesn't hate antagonists we can't say he/she is good or bad by seeing just one thing, it's not written anywhere that a g"Good" person will not hate antagonists or hate antagonists. So please don't quarrel on such topic. You both are right on your side. But please don't try to prove each other wrong. (And please don't think that I am being rude to you guys, i am just giving you advice and plcing my views before you.)

I'm still nervous and somewhat skeptical about this movie, because the first Mariposa film holds a special place in my heart. Heaven knows how long I've been crying for a sequel and now we're getting one and I'm still acting all sentimental!

Lena_t Zaffy, for me Mariposa - one of the best Barbie Movie, I can't say nothing about sequel now, we still have really small information about that movie, all we can do now it is waiting.
