It's really a mix of both. It all depends if I like it or not. A lot of what I watch happens to be unpopular, but my Top 3 anime are all well to semi-well known.

i'm not a hipster almost all non popular animes suck balls but there's a few good non popular animes...well more like insanely popular animes over in japan and some what popular over here then a few years past and now every american except me and a few others remember the shows.Most anime fans seem to be hipsters if attack on titan wasn't so popular I bet everybody would have picked all unpopular
