Haven't watched the other ones and some of them, I'd rather die than watch especially School Days.

KKH: Well, Higurashi's main theme is actually friendship. The extent of violence in its first season can be a little hard to stomach, for certain people, but the second season really sets its focus on the main struggles of the series' main antagonist and protagonist, and its, overall, lesson. Its execution and development of characters is genius, and while you don't have to watch it, if you don't want to, you should know that you are probably missing out on one of the greatest anime series of all time.

Higurashi, PMMM, Another, and Elfen Lied are all fantastic anime.
Horror is the best genre, imo. <3
