Anime The Sub/Dub Game!

animegurl23 posted on May 27, 2012 at 07:36PM
I will name an anime and you must tell me if you prefer the sub or dub and list one valid reason, not "ALL DUBS SUCK, THEREFORE I WILL NEVER CHOOSE A DUB ANSWER" and vice versa "i never like subs , i hate reading its so stupid" . give a vaild reason based on the voice acting, edits to the script and stuff, just make it valid.

I start:

Clannad.-Subbed ( my reason: i really didnt like sunohara's voice, it just was so high pitched and annoying and really wanted me to punch him. -_- i also didnt think tomoya's voice fit him that much. . . . the rest was ok... )

Fairy Tail - Subbed. Lucy's dubbed voice sound so low and Natsu doesn't sound the same. And the worst part, Erza sounds like a guy. NOO!
Sorry for doing two just wanted to.
Angel Beats! - Dubbed. Sorry, but I just love Yui, Hinata, Yuri, Iwasawa, Angel, Noda, and Shiina's Dubbed Voices! They sound so real and it fits them so MUCH! But I suggest to watch episode 13, Graduation subbed. Hate Otanashi's dubbed voice.

Bleach dubbed: the voice actors are my favorite thing! I really don't like subbed ones! Mostly Ichigo because he sounds like 30 year old guy!!! Toshiro's voice is too girly! Rukia's ok but English is better! Plus that Kurosaki-kun thing! It's so annoying, so glad they changed it! The English voices suit the characters more!
Fairy Tail dubbed: sorry anime girl but, dub is better because the sub voices sound like they hate their life :( just emotional less! Dub is not great but it's better....

Transformers: The Headmasters
Transformers: Super-God Masterforce
Transformers: Victory
All subbed

What's that?! A guy who prefers english dubbed anime prefers subtitles?! WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO?!

Alright all joking aside, I've watched a few episodes of each, and there are plenty of reasons why I prefer these subtitled (all of which add up to the conclusion that Omni Productions, the company who produced the dubs, knows jack-shit about Transformers G1, let alone Transformers in general). One reason that really gets me has to do with the voice acting: Mispronunciation.

Either the voice actors have terrible speech impediments, or the guy who provided the english script is incredibly inept at grammar and spelling, because some names and terms end up getting mispronounced. Here's a few examples:

-The narrator sometimes pronounces "Decepticons" as "Decepticuns".
-"Cybertron" is pronounced "Cyberton", "Cybertun", "Cyberdon", you name it.
-"Idea" is pronounced "idear" by certain characters.
-"Rodimus Prime" is pronounced "Road-imus Prime".

Marvel Anime: X-Men - Dubbed

Short reason: Steve Blum as Wolverine

Long reason: X-Men is an american franchise with characters from different nationalities (including Japanese and Russian). Therefore, hearing these characters speak in english would be more fitting than hearing them speak in japanese (unless the characters themselves are japanese). Also, the USA has its share of Marvel cartoons with these characters speaking english, so it's not like english voices would be a first for these characters.

Of course, the long reason can also be applied to the other Marvel Anime projects.

@animegurl23 I dunno maybe they are >,< or they are very quite ether way... i just don't like Japanese voice actors and need to get use to it.... sorry to bash u like that, but that's how I feel. plus I feel like voices don't suit the characters, but that's my opinion
Maid Sama subbed: There isn't a dub yet, but the voice acting is pretty good. Mostly Misaki's and Usui's, it's pretty hard to imagine someone American taking their roles but I think they can :D

@viktoriya773 I agree, I wouldn't imagine Maid Sama having to be dubbed. They sound perfect.
Highschool of the Dead: Dubbed. I really enjoy this anime. I mean, the zombie fighting, not pervert parts, but subbed is not great. Dubbed is easier to watch considering the extra things.

Higurashi when they cry - Dubbed! I just love being able to recognize the more popular or "used" voice actors/actress while listening to dubbed and I feel they did a good job with Higurashi, lol. Especially the girls. I don't know why, but Rika's voice has kind of an annoying whiny pitch to it - but I find it so cute!

Hetalia-Dubbed
YES YES YES I KNOW that i am an avid sub fan and only watch subs but ( even though i hated hetalia ) i have to admit that the dub with the accnets was better...... but that doesnt change the fact that i hated the show and could even watch 2 eps of it :/

sora no otoshimono / heavens lost property: subbed. i cannot stand greg ayres one bit and his voice just makes me want to scream, and this doesnt help that sora no otoshimono is basically porn animated and just hearing greg's squeaky voice doesnt help :/
OHSHC: subbed . i love miyaro mamono's voice as tamaki X3 its hard to believe he played he played the same psychotic killer as light from death note!! XO and i didnt think haruhis voice had much effort in the dub...

@animegurl *watches trailer for Heaven's Lost Property english dub* What I just heard wasn't a 'squeaky' voice. Saying that that voice is 'squeaky' is like saying Soundwave's voice in The Transformers is 'boring' (or as Rumble might put it, 'unchrasmatic').

Anyways, Gun X Sword - Dubbed

David Vincent captures almost all of Van's emotions successfully, especially when Van bursts into a rage over The Claw.

@animegurl23 agree kind of on haruhi's va! But as fro Tamaki, Vic FREAKING SEXY!
fruits Basket dub: Toruh's eng va so girl and sweet, Kyoya sound like an old man! Yuki is too girly also Sugare's voice doesn't suit him! sorry

I guess I mostly prefer japanese dub for most anime, and once I get used to a certain language, I find it kinda hard to openly accept another dub.

Baka to test: Subs, i usually go for dubs incase the subs have bad grammer (etc0 btu Baka to test gave me a really good enjoyment of their cute voices and such.

Full Metal Alchemist - Dubbed, My sister showed me this anime, and I was too naive at that time to even realize there was a subbed version.
Wakfu - Subbed, There is no dubbed version of this french anime
Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood - Most of the voices didn't even fit the characters, and seeing FMA and not having the voices match really irritated me. Besides, General Armstrongs voice in Japanese is way more intimidating than in English
OHSHC - Dubbed, it's easier that way to not bother with subs, if you can. Besides, everytime Tamaki blew up, I just imagined Ed Elric in the back of my head screaming "Don't call me small! I'll chop off your legs and stick them on your head!" Lol
School Rumble - dubbed, The voices seemed to be okay, and again, why subbed?
Death Note - Subbed, The voices in english didn't sound right. I like how Misa's voice is all winy, it fits her, and most of the others weren't half as intimidating as they should have been in english
Bleach - Subbed, Hulu didn't provide Subbed, and once you've seen it in one, it's hard to watch it in the other
And lastly
Fruits Basket- Dubbed, the voices fit perfectly, and subbed made me want to rup my ears off.

Fruits Basket- Dubbed. I literally looked up a subbed episode for that. And at first they show Tohru, and they gave her a really high voice. And I was like, this is okay, I can deal with that. But then they show Kyo. I heard his voice, and was really mad. He sounded too manly. And worst of all, Yuki sounded literally like a girl. I was like, what kind of girl would like him?
OHSHC- Dubbed. When I first started watching it, I thought that the voices suited better if dubbed. But then I watched sub, and I only liked that Haruhi's voice was a little more girlish.
Baka to Test- Subbed. Though I did not really watch it sub., I thought dubbed was pretty dull.
Vampire Knight- Subbed. I watched it dubbed and kinda liked Kaname. Who I hate. But I thought in both versions Zero sounded the same. Hot and really cute.
Bleach- Sub/Dub. I haven't really watched a lot of Bleach, but I watched some of it sub and some dub. I thought they pretty much sounded the same.

Futari wa Pretty Cure

Dubbed. Nat's voice was so spectacular and my brother says she sounds like me. Also, Mepple's voice sounds awful in the Japanese version, but he sounds relieving in the English version.
