Anime Question

Post your favorite anime character and explain why!

Ciel Phantomhive from Black Butler will perpetually be my favorite fictional character.

When I was twelve, I was borderline catatonic for over six months. By this, I mean not physically, but emotionally. I expressed little to no care and focused solely on everyday events without thinking of the future. I was thirsty for revenge against someone who severely abused me as a child in the same way that Ciel was abused.

I watched Black Butler without any expectations and was immediately intrigued by Ciel's character. I watched the entire series rapidly and found that my problems were freakishly similar to his. Watching him grow and overcome those circumstances released a huge wave of emotion within me, breaking this catatonia for good.

Since then, he has been my favorite character ever. He did for me what no other character ever could, saved my life, and inspired me to get psychiatric care. I found out that, like him, I suffered from psychotic depression, anxiety, and extreme post-traumatic stress disorder. Had I not discovered him, I may have never found out who I was and reached where I am today.

I want to know if there's a character that helped you through life, whether it be in a big way or a small way! I'm not going to shame your character or anything, I promise!

I wrote an article on this for the AoT club a while back.

One of the main reasons I got into Annie's character is because I simply find her to be an intriguing character. For the most part she was very quiet and stoic but definitely has something more going on beneath the surface. Overall I like her personality. There are characters who like to play the hero and there are characters who have more selfish desires, but feel bad for doing so (like Jean). And then there's Annie who admits that she's in it for herself but owns it lol. At least she's up front about it.

I also think she's just a badass character in general. She had that crazy slashy ring. She just doesn't seem to give a fuck. She's got her kickass fighting stance. And then there's Titan Annie which is next level badass lol. She was just kicking ass and crunching butches the entire time! I know it's pretty dark but ya gotta admit she was boss in those scenes.

Say what you will about Annie, but ya gotta admit that she's determined and clever. Those are two more traits that I like in her. A clever character who knows what she's doing can be just as cool as a more impulsive one. And Annie's got that; she didn't fall for Armin's trap and had an escape plan to boot. Likewise, she rode it out until the painful end when she couldn't fight any longer. I love me a good never-back-down character.

On top of that I love the dark humor she bought to the anime. This is gonna sound awful, but I thought that this scene

was hilarious. Like Annie why are you being so extra lol? You literally did not have to do that, but you did it anyways. Idk I think she's got some dark humor going on and I appreciate that.

Completely the opposite of what I just said, I think she's also a very sympathetic, tragic sort of character. I can't help but feel like she had been used. Her father literally told her to make the world her enemy. Like he's her father of course she's going to listen. Sure she knows right from wrong, but bottom line I'm assuming she has a lot of either love and/or loyalty...maybe even fear she felt like she had to listen to him. And she pretty much did make an enemy of the world. The worst part is Bertholdt and Reiner left her behind. Honestly they couldn't do much but they didn't even try. They threw this girl under the bus and got away clean while she was imprisoned and (according to Armin) tortured. So yeah she's definitely racked up some pity points from me.

On top of all of the above, I think that she has a both wicked and beautiful design. I love her hair (style and color) and eyes especially. The blonde is a nice color and really goes with the shade of blue her eyes are. They have a lovely shape to them as well. She has pretty lips too. She just has a cute face. And she's so small compared to like everyone but Christa lol. That's also adorable.

Overall I think Annie is just a great character.

Thank you! ^_^ Its cool that you can still appreciate her as a character even though you don't like the anime itself.

Thank you!!! ^~^ I actually loved a lot of the secondary characters in AoT. It was just the story and the main cast that turned me off. Besides lil Armin.

That's a very good reason to like a character. I understand. He's pretty iconic in terms of demeanor and past actions, so you must be a pretty cool person too then!

Personally I love Tsubasa Hanekawa from the Monogatari series. I love how her backstory flows into her character traits and overall personality. I also adore her relationship with the main character and honesty just her in general.
