Although he's not AS powerful as other omnipotent anime characters, he's still pretty damn OP. Mephisto has control over time and space, and can bend it to his will and even make different timelines and dimensions.
Because he's actually Samael, king of Time.
And he was also known as Loki for a while, in case you didn't know.
So he can stop time and do whatever he wants when he does, since he is the embodiment of time, it really doesn't have much of an affect on him. And he can also transport other being's minds to different planes of existence.

Yeah. A lot of people who only watched the anime see him more or less as a useless source of comic relief. I know a lot of people hate him for putting Rin up in dangerous situations, too...even though he's actually secretly testing out Rin's powers by doing this and would by no means let him die.
