Anime tends to be better than most films and TV shows, if it's good. There's a lot of bad anime, too, but good anime really sucks you in and tugs at your heart strings. Avatar: The Last Airbender did this quite successfully, too, even though it's not officially an anime.
Also, I really like Japan; the music, the art, the sound of the language... it all appeals to me.
More than anything, though, anime (good anime) is easy to become obsessed with. When I watch a normal film, or read a normal book, that I love, I LOVE it and remember it forever, but... I don't become obsessed with it. Not since I discovered Naruto (my first - and current - anime obsession).
