I agree! It's far from a main stream and hundreds of chapters long. No main stream battle series can ever match it!

I don't think it is regarded as shounen since its target audience are much older.

It was published in Shonen Jump magazine (the same magazine that publishes Bleach and Naruto), and contains no graphic violence, sex, nudity and with minimal bad language, so I think it is a shounen, although the themes and complexity of the storyline could possibly be interpreted as being for an older age group.

I'd say Dragonball Z. It's the best expression of what a shonen can be I think. But that doesn't mean it's my favorite. My favorite 80/90s shonen is Ranma 1/2, and favorite 2010's is Fairy Tail (I prefer not to compare animes from different decades).
