oh, you meant "Tenchi", good thing I double checked just in case it was a type oh. i've watched all the Tenchi series.
i actually watched Tenchi Universe first. it's not part of the main canon, but it's a lot more straight forward story. it's a long tv series and you don't have to worry about how it intertwines with the rest of the more complicated series. since it was made for tv, it's not quite as ecchi of a series. i'd recommend watching that first. then watch the movie Tenchi Muyo in Love which uses the same characters as found in Universe. then, if you want to see the "original" and delve into the complicated mix, do that next.
if you want to start with the main canon series chronologically first, watch Tenchi Muyo Ryo-ohki (which itself is confusing because it's composed of three different OVAs, and not all localized versions use that name. i got burned ordering "Tenchi Muyo Myo-ohki" the complete series, only to find it only consisted of the 3rd OVA, make sure you start with the 1st OVA) if you want to continue with the canon and explore that universe, you can then try the side-series Tenchi Muyo GXP and War on Geminar, which take place afterwards, but each have a different main character than Tenchi, who each get their own harem.
so, choose between those two paths. if you want more, there is more stuff that's unrelated to either of those. there's Tenchi in Tokyo, and several magical girl spinoffs featuring Sasami.
