I guess there are quite a few anime characters that I love that lots of other people hate. xP Well there's:
Alois Trancy from Kuroshitsuji:
Everyone knows he's a bratty snob and a huge jerk, but that doesn't mean we can't like his character. The only ones who don't hate him are his fangirls/fanboys.
Near/Nate River from Death Note (*picture*):
Everyone thinks he's replacing L, and just hates him for no reason.
Azusa Nakano from K-On!:
She isn't hated THAT much, but there are people who think she ruined the original K-On, and that she's "stealing attention from Mio" or something. -_- On Tumblr, there are many people who make confessions about hating Azusa for ridiculous reasons.
I'm sure there are more hated characters that I like, like Sasuke Uchiha, but I can't remember them all. '^^
I've never understood why so many people hate Near just because he's L's successor. L is my most favorite Death Note character and Near is my second and for some reason so many people find that strange. I think Near is a really fascinating character. I mean, if it wasn't for him L's death never even would have been avenged! I mean, come on people! Even die hard L fangirls need to give him that! XD
Envy from full metal alchemist(picture): most people hate him but i think he's funny and great as a villain though a terrible person. He also has a lot of great quotes.
Near/Nate River from death note: He's hated because he's L's successor. And yes he's a stuck up know it all who disrespects people. Why do i like him? because he's fascinating the way his mind works and was interesting. He also got some really funny moments like the episode when his team was being invaded and had to escape so he focused on rescuing his toys!
I agree that Envy has great quotes. And yes, Nate is such an interesting character, young and intelligent, yet strange and sort of lovable (to me). I couldn't have explained it better myself. ^ ^
Envy is suh an interesting character~ Really, he's such a big part of the story and I think we can all learn a lot from him. I agree with you on Near too!
It makes me tired hearing people saying the same thing over and over about Misa Amane like annoying, bitch, in the way etc.. I find her rather cute and quite funny to be honest.

Misa was far from my favorite but i find her a tragic charcter
People say that she's irritating and pointless to the plot, but they forgot that Light may have been caught earlier if it weren't for her tricking L and the investigators with the 'other' Kira tapes. She's one of my favorites actually xD
I really liked Misa. She was going through so much but she always kept up a positive attitude. She can be annoying at times but overall I think she's an awesome character ^ ^

It's not that she's hated, but I know quite a few fans don't like her because they found her very whiny and unrealistic/immature with her actions, but I related to her and she seemed the most human out of all of the characters to me. I'm still a little confused why there's so much dislike for her; she reminds me of myself in a way. ;__;
I agree! I found her to be most realistic. I don't understand why people always hate the most relatable character. Maybe it's because these people don't want to be reminded of themselves. xD

while I wouldn't want to ever meet him if he was real, I found excalibur to be rather funny, I thought he was ok as far as annoying characters go XD. I also really like akito from fruits basket, once I learned her background I thought she wasn't all that because I couldn't see her acting anyway else. I also like alois from kuroshitsuji, not my favorite but I don't hate him or anything, again seeing his background I didn't hate him so much.
I adore hime(Orihime) when alot of the community dont because they believe shes too whine,needy and weak.I see it more as human ,caring and non mary sue like
Haruka from A Dark Rabbit Has Seven Lives. She likes the hero,but she's not the "main couple". She was nice and I really liked her character. However, many fans of the show hate her because she's part of the love triangle.

I don't "love" her, but I think she's really cool (except the time she broke Ciel's ring). She is more worthy of being the Queen's watchdog's wife than most of Ciel's fangirls will ever be. They always say "WHY DOES ELIZABITCH GET TO HAVE HIM?!" etc. Seriously guys, calm down. It's not like it's real life. That just shows how immature most of Black Butler's fans are.

Hmm...well I wouldn't go as far as to say 'love' exactly, but whenever I hear people talking about their least favourite characters in Fruits Basket they always seem to be Ayame, Ritsu and Akito, yet I think Ayame's pretty funny, I like Akito a lot better after finishing the manga, and I even like Ritsu too. Mind you I have only watched one episode of the anime, are they more irritating in the anime than the manga?
Also I am probably the only person I know who likes L and Light Yagami... ***SPOILERS*** I have read so many comments on Facebook saying 'I hate Light ever since he killed L'. I like L probably more than Yagami, but I think Light is a very well-developed character and is very clever. Yes he is evil and manipulative. But that's why he's an anti-hero and not a good guy. That's what makes the manga/anime more interesting, I think.

Tomoki Sakurai (Sora no Otoshimono)
Everyone hates him because he's perverted sometimes, but that's just his one bad side, which everybody has. I like him because he has such a pure heart and is so kind.
Meroko from Full Moon. She is hated because she doesn't want Takuto to fall in love with Mitsuki, but I really love her. I think Takuto is better with her.

i only really liked meroko in the manga but i didn't really hate her in the anime

I'm neutral towards Claude but I do think he is an interesting character. And I love Sebastian but I honestly don't think he really cared about Ciel that much. He just had more dignity. I mean, he was somewhat cold towards him in the second season at times. Upset because he wasn't able to eat Ciel's soul. Though I think he has respect towards Ciel, I don't think he really loves him like so many people say. He was just fulfilling the contract.
Takano Miyo [Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni] -Picture-
*Spoilers For Higurashi Kai* I understand why people dislike Takano-san so much but they have to understand that her childhood was what truly messed her up badly. If she wasn't abused in the orphanage, she probably wouldn't have killed so many people. I really love the depth they gave her as a character and, in the end, she did redeem herself. Even though I do understand why people dislike/hate her, she's still my favorite anime villainess.
Elizabeth Middleford [Kuroshitsuji]
I don't love her but I do really like this character. Yes, she is whiny and bratty at times but she overall cares deeply for Ciel and would probably do anything for him. I found her to be a sweetheart and funny at times as well.
Shirley Fenette [Code Geass]
Same thing with Lizzie, she does get annoying at times, but she overall cared deeply for Lelouch and only wanted to make him happy. She was funny at times and was an overall friendly, sweet character.
Saki Hiwajima [Durarara!!]
Yeah, she's got a weird Izaya obsession and is somewhat creepy and I do understand why people dislike her but I found Saki to be interesting, like all the other Durarara!! characters.
Kyubey [Puella Magi Madoka Magica]
He's not the most hated PMMM character but I do know many people who dislike him. Yes, he's a manipulative little monster but if the Incubators never made contact with the humans and made young teenage females into magical girls, humans would still be living in caves. The system, before the end of PMMM, benefitted both worlds with the help of the sacrifices of the magical girls.

I like all those characters too! Especially Shirley and Lizzy~ (except for the Higurashi one because I still need to watch that anime) XD
^:) Shirley and Lizzie always managed to make me smile. I think they deserve more love. ^^ I adore Higurashi, you should try watching it if you want a psychological horror/mystery anime to watch. ^_^
^Haha, I love psychological series as well. ^.^ I would also recommend Shiki, but I think it is more philosophical. Still a very good series however. :)
Kikyou from Inuyasha. She gets hated a lot because she tries to "steal" Kagome's soul and for trying to take Inuyasha away from Kagome, when Kagome is the one who is technically stealing Inuyasha away from Kikyou, since she and Inuyasha were together before Kagome came to the feudal era. I think she's a cool character.
I would say Estonia from Hetalia and I know a lot people don't really like him. ...but what I love about him is how he stands up so much against Russia and always gets away from getting the hurt that usually Latvia and Lithuania gets. ...but I think Latvia gets more of the hurting from Russia since he doesn't know when to speak at the right time about Russia.XD
