Anime Question

The difference between Fullmetal Alchemist/Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood...

So the DVD's that I ordered for both animes will arrive 2 weeks from now.

Anyway, my friend told me that there was a difference between the 2. How are they different tho? I thought Brotherhood was a sequel to the 1st one so my initial plan was to watch the 1st one then Brotherhood all while reading the manga at the same pace with regards to the plot development. :/

So frankly, I suggest you don't even watch the 2003 anime. They completely ruined the ending, the movie was horrible, and they screwed up the characters.

So I'd go like this:

Manga and then the Brotherhood anime. But if you want to watch the 2003 anime, I'd watch it last. Since it might as well be a whole new series, since it doesn't even follow the manga or plot.

LOLerz: Pretty much, the villian is different, a lot of character have been changed. Like the Wrath, Sloth, and Pride are different then they are in the manga/Brotherhood. There are somethings that are similer, but they did change a lot. I actually did watch the 2003 anime first, so I'm not being biased. I thought it was good until about half way threw, when the plot started getting more serious and I really didn't like the ending at all. The manga and Brotherhood are 100 times better.

Brotherhood wouldn't be so popular as it is without the help of the original series. Also, the manga wasn't even finished when Brohood was still ongoing. The original series will always be better, no matter what you say. It's much more realistic with actual meaning, much better music, and doesn't kill off it's characters in the first few episodes. It's best to watch the original series so you'll have an actual understanding of what's going on when you go to watch the second series.

Simmeh: Pfft! Wouldn't be so popular? Tell me, why was the 2003 anime even made? Because the manga was POPULAR, the original storyline. It would be popular even if the 2003 anime was never even made. And it actually was a good bit into the series, they just choise to change that storyline and characters. The villian, humoncuili, they were already there. And killing off the characters? The 2003 anime kills off more of the characters then in Brotherhood, characters that are suppost to live die in the 2003 one. Actual understanding? Umm, the 2003 anime is nothing like the official storyline. There for to actually understand the series, you'd watch Brotherhood first.

If you're talking about Scar, he did not derserve to live. Maes Hughes on the other hand, he did. He was the only character worth living in that show.

Scar actually had a plotline in the official storyline, instead of just killing him off as a bad guy. Brotherhood actually gave him a story.

The 1st one is good but tends to drag in some places but still has awesome and unforgettable moments (i have the box sets/booklets too :)
Then Brotherhood (also have the box sets lol) came out and it follows the manga, it is the better of the 2, even so, there are a few things explained n more detail in the 1st that may make more sense when watching Brotherhood (but its not necessary to actual plot, that i can remember)
