My favorite "traditional" mech series is Gundam Wing. I actually like Escaflowne more, but that's more of a fantasy anime than a sci fi one. I usually stay away from mech anime, and cute girl pilots is often not enough to keep me from getting bored, but I do like Lagrange: The Flower of Rin-ne.

oh wow, i'd forgotten about that one. i remember liking it. it was related to the Tenchi universe, so I had to watch it.

I'm going with Gun X Sword. Then again, Gun X Sword is pretty much my favorite anime of all time, so it's automatically my number one favorite mech series (though there are some shows like Voltron, Linebarrels of Iron, and Robotech that manage to come close).
